ParticipantWow! That’s amazingly insane.
I’ll do my best to make it, but that State of Virginia is not very accommodating on a Friday evening.

ParticipantGo team go, rah, rah rah!!
(post bump)
And sorry I’m not much on the social end. I just like to ride miles from my house. But I do hope to meet some of you on the Pres. Day ride. And if you come up with something before that, please let me know.

ParticipantI’m getting old and don’t remember all the details. It may have been Tour du Pont at this time.
But one year we rode over to Hagerstown to see the end of a stage (and did a bunch of the roads that they did). And another year they had a stage that ended in Columbia, MD. In fact, we did one of the roads from that stage (Morgan/Morgan Station Rd) on today’s ride.

ParticipantThis sort of sounds like fun. Assuming that the weather is tolerable, I’ll do my best to make it. Although, I will got lots of extra miles coming from the boonies of MD.
Now If I could only get tech savvy and figure a way to get some type of reminder of this. (I’m old, and my mind isn’t what it used to be!!)

Thanks everyone! I think I’m with Team 19 now, but I’m not sure. Sorry for the delayed responses from me, I’ve been fully challenged with certain other things.
Thanks a ton!
Bob
Good luck on team 19 Bob! And I hope you recover from your illness. Also glad that you can still play along. lol, it was fun having you as a team mate for a brief time.

Bob James, with all due respect, I am working on some alternative BAFS facts to counter your “actual facts”. Pardon my delay while I source the onion for some credible news I can repost to this feed

My entry in the terrifying category:
I was hit by a car on Saturday, January 28th on Campbell Ave outside of Capitol City Brewing. I was riding on Campbell towards Harris Teeter when a car pulled out of a parking spot. I had the “Oh shit, I’m about to get hit by a car” moment. It’s the kind of moment where your brain can process that something terrible is bad to happen but can not react in enough time to save you. I ended up with a somewhat glancing blow into the rear door of a Volkswagon. The driver did not immediately stop and I started yelling as I followed her half way down Campbell. I thankfully remained upright.
Thanks to all the advice from the forum and WABA, I think I handled it pretty well. I called 911. I told them that I didn’t know if I was hurt and I asked for a paramedic to be sent. ALWAYS DO THIS. With the amount of adrenalin pumping through my veins causing me to shake, I wouldn’t have been able to tell if I was injured or not. A ridiculous number of police cars arrived along with a ridiculous number of paramedics. They did a few grip tests and poked me in the spine a bit and then asked if I wanted to be transported to a hospital. I declined and signed a waiver. They advised going to the hospital or calling 911 if I felt like my condition changed and warranted. Very happy with the service from the Arlington County FD. The driver was given a written warning for failure to yield.
I was glad to have two eyewitnesses come to render aid. Both provided me with their contact info. Emm also came to my rescue from Best Buns as we were both headed to the Dinosaurs and Doughnuts ride. All of the folks on the ride were very kind to wait for me to finish with the paperwork so that I could still make the ride.
My arm is a little sore today (feels like someone punched me in the upper arm), but I think I’m going to be okay. I’ve got all the witness info and insurance info to recover damages if the situation changes tomorrow.
I’m really thankful for all of the individuals who helped me. I love riding bicycles more than just about anything that I’ve ever done and I love the people that I’ve met through riding bicycles. I’m glad that I have another day to do it.
I feel your pain!! I was broadsided by a car when I was 15, and am still alive to tell about it. That’s one of the reasons why I enjoy my life. You just never know when it will be over.
Some lady ran a stop sign and hit me. I’m just glad that a police car was at the intersection when it happened. Who knows what would have happened without a quick call to 911. I was in intensive care for a week, and in the hospital for about two weeks. I still don’t remember any of it. I just recall seeing a police car at the intersection, and my next memory was them sticking tubes in me at the hospital. I’m just glad they got the woman who did it, and it was nice to have my college education paid for!
lol, so if I come across as a bit odd in these forums, you know why!!

ParticipantBob James suggested that I submit this ride for consideration.
And although all of it doesn’t relate to the bike ride, it does convey how my 14 hour day went. I was in the LA area, and the weather had been awful, so I decided to take my rental car and my rental bike for a road trip. Here is the summarized story. Also, I had no idea what the roads were like as I had planned my route using Ride with GPS.
Today I went for a road trip for a planned 70 mile ride in the Imperial Valley is search of dry weather. Here are today’s lowlights:
1. Many pockets of torrential rain on the drive over.
2. Two major accidents causing quite a bit of delay.
3. Really strong winds in the desert that got worse the further I went into my planned ride. They started out about 25ish, and by the time I had to bail, they were pushing 50ish.
4. Roads that got worse the further I rode. And you can’t even imagine how bad they were. I can’t believe that they considered them paved. As I got to the worst part, I was doing about 5-6 on a flat road!! And my hands were killing me just trying to keep the bike upright and avoid all the holes.
5. Riding my bike in a dust storm! I finally had to bail on my original route as this was just way too dangerous (and stupid).
6. Getting a flat tire on the awful road in the dust storm as I decided to bail out and head back. Within a minute of turning around and able to go over 10 mph, I nailed one the many holes in the road and got a flat instantly. I’m just glad I didn’t destroy the rim or tire.
7. Walking about a mile (half in a dust storm) back to a huge factory where I could seek shelter and change my flat (not one passing car offered any help). There was no way I was going to try to change a flat in a dust storm.
8. Getting caught in a blizzard on the way back on I-8 towards San Diego. This was in the rental car, not on the rental bike. Whew!!But I did get a 50 mile ride in and I lived to tell about a most interesting day.

No worries, sir! Freezing saddles goes for months. Your health is WAY more important. When you’re feeling better, start back slowly and consistently. Your contributions have already helped us move up the leaderboard! They are a huge help! Rest is your friend!
On another note… It was kinda interesting today that we spent a few hours in a tie for 6th place. We later pulled ahead a little, but it was kinda cool that we had a points tie.
I agree, don’t do something stupid just to log in some miles for a mildly amusing challenge! I’m happy as long as we put up a decent fight. I think we’re putting in a pretty decent showing considering we don’t have any total nutjobs on our team.
It’s sort of like computers. Nobody needs the top of the line, best, most expensive ones. It usually the ones a bit below those that are usually the best! And I think that’s where we are right now. We are the team for savvy bargain shoppers who want a great value.
I’m quite confident that we’ll finish around 4th or 5th. And while I will never have a prayer for total miles, I will do our best to get our team to #1 in elevation!
Hopefully we can try to organize a team ride one of these days so that we all get a chance to say hi.

There is a new post in the team assignment thread that will help get everyone signed up. I think we’re down to one missing team member.
Thanks y’all for getting the sign up process done! It has moved us up the ranks a bit.
I was happy to see us get ten members. Now hopefully we’ll get our planned 11th person (or even better, get some mileage junkie!!)
And speaking of mileage junkies, I do apologize for not holding my own in shitty weather. I made sure I let them know in advance that I don’t do wet weather. Sorry gang. Not even a sleaze mile in this mess from me.

Team 18’ers who have Monday off- anyone interested in a group ride originating in Virginia?
Sadly, I will be stuck at the office for a good part of the day. But maybe Presidents Day. And we can even have fun discussions about our new President while we ride.
AlanA
ParticipantYay! An official team 18 post.
I’m happy with any name that we come up with, but this one rings sort of true with me.
I do some rides with a few other people every so often and I refer to us as the ‘usual gang of idiots’.

I think in lieu of the shockingly high number of riders/miles BAFS players are putting down on trainers I thought why not offer up the WORST and MOST POINTLESS prize EVER.
For the rider who rides the most miles and the rider who spends the most time on a trainer/zwift/virtual etc… I would like to invite them up on the stage at the final happy hour to award them with embarrassment from their peers. I may even get them a very shitty award involving paper clips and hot glue and sharp objects they won’t want to ride home with in their pockets…
Ok, maybe this is a bit mean, and at the end of the day we (folks who ride outside) are having way more fun anyway. but regardless, I think theses people deserve some recognition for being the most anti-BAFS possible. Perhaps we could make them sing karaoke too? OOOOh, maybe I could bring a trainer and they could be forced to pedal on stage during happy hour? Maybe that would considered cruel and unusual punishment???
Slackers INCLUDED or EXEMPT, your vote?
I’m open to prize related suggestions here?
A very touchy subject for me. I removed myself from a few clubs because some of these @$$h()les were racking up 50-70 miles a day with insane elevation gains and averaging 20mph. And when they do “real” rides outside, they average 14-15 for a much flatter ride. I’m not sure any of them are doing FS, though.
I think my prize suggestion would most likely be banned or removed for obscenities.

More to the point, I don’t show you as registered for Freezing Saddles at all. Did you use a different forum name?
Dang. You beat me to this. That was the first thing I thought of when seeing 2525. lol, and I guess that makes us all old!!!
