2016 is drawing to and end and I’ve been reflecting on the past year of biking. It was a great year on a bike for me. Some of the highlights:

    Participated in Freezing Saddles
    Bike my first century
Had so much fun riding my first century that I rode 12 more in 9 states and the District of Columbia
    Started a coffee club
    Biked across Iowa in RAGBRAI
    Biked over 10,000 miles
Volunteered to help build the Alexandria Bicycle Campus
Spent 737 hours pedaling, the equivalent of biking non-stop for an entire month
Enjoyed more sunrises and sunsets than in the previous 36 years of my life combined
    Biked to Baltimore
    Biked to Annapolis
    Marshalled the Arlington Fun Ride
Followed Ian Fingerman’s advice about making friends, “Everyone here likes bikes, just talk about bikes.” Talked about bikes, made lots of friends.
Biked the Delaware & Raritan Canal, which was beautiful.
Instigated some great group rides (Mason Neck, Indian Head, Christmas lights, Great Falls) Tricked Komorebi into doing the route planning for most of them.
Spent a whole lot of time riding with my biking soul mates, Komorebi and LeprosyStudyGroup (7.8 days with Komorebi this year and 4.2 days with LSG according to Strava Roster)
Spelled out “Shue Sucks” in a parking lot at the Pentagon

    2017 Goals
    Bike the entire C&O
    Centuries in 5 more states
    Attend Bicycle Advisory Committee Meetings
    RAGBRAI again
Do all of my own bike maintenance
Volunteer at more events (DC Bike Ride, Air Force Classic, WABA Rides)
    Ride 11,000 miles in 2017
    Stop and take more pictures
    Finish the fixed gear project
    Try bikepacking

I’m curious about what other people’s bike highlights were in 2016 and what you aspire for in 2017.

    2016 Highlights

    No crashes or broken bones.
Best mileage year in a while. (I could tell you the exact year, but it’s wet out)
Did a bunch of stuff, enjoyed life, and talked to the animals as I rode by them.

    2017 Goals

Ride my bike when it’s dry.
    Drink when it’s wet.
Do a bunch of stuff, enjoy life, and talk to the animals as I ride by them.

Did someone mention coffee club goals? In 2016 I was pretty much a regular at HDCC, CCCC, and WTFCC. I have attended MPCC a couple of times (at least once in 2016?). My goal for 2017 is to attend FCC in DC at least once.

Friday Coffee Club is a good one. Nearly a completely different crowd than the other coffee clubs.

I agree. I’ve enjoyed FCC in DC. Hope to make it to the Arlington one sometime (Java Shack)

I recommend Friday the 20th. Getting to FCC, the original, will be impossible that day, while getting to Java Shack will be a cinch.

Im looking to raise my Eddington number to 62 and get to 5200 miles again.

    That should be enough.

Dang… an Eddington of 62 would be sweet. What was your number this year? Mine was 48, which I thought was pretty respectable.

Ummm… thats lifetime Eddington, not annual. Im at 43 right now. And thats in miles. Maybe in 2018 or 2019 I’ll get to 100 km.

48 is a very respectable annual number. I was at 38 last year.

What’s the best calculator to figure that?

I’d also be interested in a lifetime calculator. I used VeloViewer to get my annual Eddington. It also gives other interesting annual stats.
