Oh sure. So, in addition to Judd selling my email address, you’re also going to sell it? I just hope I get another one of those million dollar offers.

I think this could pretty easily being judged by having people nominate themselves by sending you their longest Strava segment for a single road. Would the WOD count as 90 miles (out and back)? [emoji51]

I guess we’d need some legal advice on the term “road”. The WOD is obviously not a road. And I would guess that out and back wouldn’t count since that is basically the same road.

And here’s another twist. Let’s say I did 40 miles of a road on one ride. And then another ride, I did an additional 20 miles of the road (not the same part, but picked up at the same location as I ended before). And how do you determine what is a “road”? Does it need to have the same name? The same Rt. number? And some roads are briefly interrupted by an intersection.

I like the concept of your idea, but you’d have to come up with some rules and guidelines. And I’m not even sure how you’d be able to figure out the same road ridden on multiple rides.

Ah, by “encourages daily riding” you meant “encourages lots of sleaze rides.”

Although I am fairly new to this dumb challenge (which I must admit, is very addictive), I seem to recall that the whole point of this challenge when it started was to promote daily commuters. Based upon this, it certainly seems to have gotten back to it’s original roots. Sadly, I don’t work, so this really doesn’t work for me. And you will certainly never find me awake before 7:00 am (unless I’m catching a flight to somewhere much warmer). And as per one other comment on this thread mentioned, there will be no benefit to doing a long team ride over the weekend.

But I still signed up because it’s fun to be participating in something and meeting other fellow cyclists. I’m pretty sure that past winners and winning teams have not been able to retire based upon their winnings from this challenge.

And one final note, I think the 1 mile sleaze ride is quite bogus. I’ve certainly done it in the past, but what does it really accomplish? A person riding one mile around their neighborhood in awful weather (or while they are sick) is not promoting anything of value.

I think Gmail marked your email as spam for my wife, so that may be a contributing factor. Also I’ve found that people don’t follow directions very well.

From what I hear, Gmail just forwards you all your junk mail now. So that shouldn’t be a problem with Gmail users.

Yay! Looking forward to a very tight competition this year based upon the new changes. It looks like all the teams will be within a few points of one another. I guess we can all get a participation award!!

But, I do have to confess. I have met some great people by doing this dumb challenge the past few years. It’s sort of fun in a weird way.

You are correct, it isn’t even open yet.

Thanks for the info. I wonder what I signed up for? I filled in all the info, authorized strava, gave my estimated miles and last years miles, etc. I am 99% sure that there was link on here to register. But anyway. I will wait to see another registration and sign up then.

This thread is from a year ago, and relates to registration for 2018. The 2019 registration will go live as soon as obscurerichard is able to clear out the data from last year.

Is it possible to get confirmation that we have registered? After seeing all these posts after I registered, I’m beginning to wonder if I am registered for this year. I registered back on 11/21, but based upon what I see here, it wasn’t open yet.

I’m not voting on the poll since I don’t like the answers. The obvious reply is “look for the crazy person riding in the snow”.

I am willing to do team assignments this year with one caveat. Once assignments are done, they are done. I am not hunting folks down, I am not spending hours upon hours shuffling things around, and I am not coordinating substitutes.

We also need more people to volunteer to be a team captain to assist with those issues when they arise (because they always do).

If someone else wants to do all that, I am more than happy to pass the torch.

Also, suggestion for registration: Is there a way that folks have to verify their email before they are officially signed up?

At the least, I’ll be happy to be a team captain again.

Oh, I guess you didn’t hear. I got $5 million from one of those replies!! That’s why I plan on travelling more this year. Thanks for thinking of me when you gave them my email address.

I’m not much of a tech whiz, but I’d like to help with something. Although, based upon the initial long range forecast, I may be in AZ and HI for a good part of winter. Especially after what happened today.

I’d be great at hand picking my own Mont. Co. team! That would make things easier for Sunyata. I’m sure I could find some random number generator to pick the other teams.

Oooh, this is already exciting, and it’s just barely November. I certainly hope we can keep this dumb competition going. It helps make Winter tolerable. Although, I would probably manage to make it through the Winter if thinks didn’t work out.
Sadly, I’m not the one to help with the computer part of it. I’m only good at riding my bike and drinking beer!!

I’ll be there on the 9th. And thanks for the effort in changing the date.

I think it would be reasonable to sub in a player with about her mileage, perhaps from the Friends of BAFS, so the overall standings are fair.

And yes, it’s disgusting that she has to deal with this. I’ve noticed in the last few days I’m occasionally getting porn spammers giving me kudos. I guess eventually all the worst parts about social networks get to every social network.

Anyway, if she gets to a place where she’s comfortable dealing with this as it pertains to BAFS, put her in touch with me and we can maybe work something out so she shows up but isn’t at risk.

I just started getting those porn spammers giving me kudo’s, too. Dang, I just thought she liked me!! It must be something new. But the good thing is that they aren’t real people that you need to worry about, unlike the other type of people who are real and like to stalk/harass people. I’ve had a few friends on Strava that have had this problem. It sucks to be a woman on social media!!
