I’m currently on the Amtrak train to Pittsburgh and from I can see of the trail it’s looking pretty dry…even the “maybe a little wet” spots observed so far look pretty dry and they are few and far between

I used to do outreach services for homeless folks and talked about panhandling with them a lot. One of my favorite guys had the most spectacular panhandling strategy that I have ever seen in my life, although I had to pay him 2 bucks to see it. Nearly all of the cash for the guys I knew who panhandled went to drugs and alcohol. Finding three meals a day for free was never an issue. Most of my guys didn’t panhandle though.

Wasn’t there an article within the last year or so about ACPD witnessing a panhandler finish for the day, walk to a relatively new Mercedes and drive off?

Do you have a preference for drop bars or flat? I ask because the crosstrail is a flat bar and you have a mix of both in your list.

“Adventure” is a subjective marketing term…within Specialized’s line-up alone in addition to the Diverge you listed they also offer the Sequoia, AWOL and more.

You may want to look at both the Giant Anyroad and Revolt models. Both have models under $1400 and are similar to a Specialized Diverge or Jamis Renegade.

For reference, I have a Revolt and love it. I find it soaks up vibration from tar & chip roads and handles large/loose gravel well. The gearing is hill friendly and while its not the lightest bike out there, it has never felt heavy or slow to me. It’s built to take larger tires, so you can easily customize to the type of road conditions you want to ride. My only knock is that it’s not the tightest turning bike.

If I recall correctly from an airfield planning course I sat through many years ago, the Gravelly location is probably within the critical area immediately off the end of the runway which would likely require FAA approval as well

Does the heart rate function of the apple watch throw that data into strava rides recorded on your phone yet? I’ve been waiting like 3 years for a HR watch that seamlessly does that (like no extra fiddling besides starting and stopping your ride), but kind of gave up paying any attention to it last year cause it seemed like it would never be done well by anybody.

I’ve been using an Garmin Fenix 3HR for almost a year and have found it extremely well thought out. So much that I use it to track my commuting miles; for the most part the only time I use my Garmin Edge anymore is for rides where I want the map display & route directions. The battery life is also phenomenal.

They seemed to be doing this A LOT in the summer at the precise time I was commuting. Worst possible location for mass Crazy Ivans. Thanks for contacting the proper folks.

April/May & September/October are pretty popular months for various Pentagon offices to conduct PT tests along the MVT between Gravelly Pt and the intersection of the trail and the 14th St bridge connection.

What is “JS” and why do they think it is OK to deface the MVT with their spray painted distance markers?

I hope they used spray chalk or professional spray chalk. Depending on the brand, spray chalk may last quite a long time even with weather conditions like we’ve had the past 24hrs. I do hope whomever JS is, they did not use chalky finish paint. That will last quite a long while.

Well, I did it again with breaking yet another bicycle part.

This morning, after putting a few of the new Freezing Saddles zipper pulls on my bike bag, I headed out into the cold. On the first hill climb, I started hearing a CLINK every few pedal strokes. I was in a low gear but switched to a lower gear just in case. About a minute later into the climb… SNAP!

I broke the chain clear off my bike!

Luckily, I was close to home, so I coasted back to my apartment, switched my lights, locks, bottle, and tools over to my backup commuter a.k.a. road bike, put my clip-in shoes on, headed back out, and finished my commute.

Oh, and the cherry on top was that the toaster at work was broken, so I had to use the manual function i.e. physically holding the lever down so it would actually heat up.

Komorebi, I think I want my money back on those FS zipper pulls. The ones you gave me are clearly cursed [emoji14]

You keep breaking drive train parts….we need to hook you up with a power meter and see how much power you could supply to Pepco

Even if I’m there, it’ll be with a car, which I suppose I’ll then have to drive home. So I may need a designated drinker either way.

I’m sure you’re just as upset by this situation as I am, but it is thoughtful of you to help out like that.

Did somebody say they needed a designated drinker?

I’m thinking about riding a few rides in New England this year. More than likely I will not ride all of them, and may find a few alternates I’m interested in riding and wondered if anyone else would like ride any of them as well.

Here’s some of the rides I was looking at:
Wintertide Ride February 18, 2017 (more than likely I will not ride this unless others are interested)
Vermont Gran Fondo July 1, 2017
Mt. Washington, NH Century Ride, NH July 29, 2017
Tour of the Litchfield Hills, CT August 6, 2017
Maine Lighthouse Ride September 9, 2017
The Formidable Ride, MA October 14, 2017
