Oh, just to put it out there ~ On account of my having basically not ridden my bike at all this year, I signed up for and plan to do the short route.
I’m OK with a shorter route – this hasn’t been a big riding year for me either.
Registered, and costume started.

Yes, we should get the band back together! If I stop trimming my moustache, I should be able to pull off a decent Floyd Pepper by the time of the ride.
Technically, Dr. Teeth and Floyd Pepper are Muppet Show characters, not Sesame Street characters, but I think Muppets are close enough.

and trail was crowded. Crazy!
The only time I ever got mugged in the bad old days of New York was across the street from Macy’s Herald Square in the middle of the day. Sometimes crowds can obscure illicit activity.
Makes me glad I turned around at Herndon yesterday …

ParticipantI clicked through an article on ArlNow to Amazon’s HQ2 job listings and noticed that one of the things they tout is:
Gonna need more tables at NL(née CC)CC.

ParticipantMy former colleague (and former Secretary of the Air Force) Deborah James was hit by a right-on-red car while out walking near here home. Perhaps because she is a VIP, the driver was cited and she was not.

Clearly it refers to the person who will usher in the time when there are no cars on the streets of Crown Heights.
Love it!

Edit: My apologies. On closer inspection, they are on West 10th Street. The meshichist bike lobby appears to have spread from Crown Heights to Gravesend
The Velo Chevra has spread further still, Baruch Hashem! That’s W 10th & West Streets in Manhattan.

I am sorry I will try to be more clear about what “Are you okay” is referring to, in the future.
As you have astutely pointed out in the past, each fringe community has its own vocabulary, customs and traditional garb (some with actual fringes!). I’m just saying that this forum understands Rapha more than Rashi, and that most viewers of the picture you posted would enjoy it because it shows bicycle riders but would have no idea what the word “Moshiach” on the flags means.

We kvetch because if we did not, it might appear that we thought the world is fine as it is – that we ignore the exile, the destruction of the Temple, the unredeemed state of the world. By kvetching we make it clear that the world needs perfecting and that we long for the coming of moshiach. In other words the proper answer to “are you okay?” is “You don’t want to know!” Or at best “not so bad”.
You do realize that 99% of the forum readers do not get your references, right? Though I must say, this is one of the rare circumstances in which I can claim to be part of “the 1%”
P.S. You mean Schneerson wasn’t … ?!

“The number of children ages 6 to 17 who rode bicycles regularly — more than 25 times a year…”
So hopping on a bike twice a month is consider regular?
Outside of devoted cyclists, many people consider cycling to be a seasonal activity. Twenty-five times per year means going for a bike ride about every weekend during the nice weather part of the year. That’s pretty regular by many standards.

ParticipantOf the listed options, I would choose #6 Heart of Fairfax Trail (HFT) so we can call it the “Horrible F*ckin’ Trail”, or #7 Dogwood Trail (DT), so we can call it the “Dogsh*t Trail”.
#1, Kaleidoscope Tail, is probably a typo but would make an excellent band name.

ParticipantI agree that Quincy could use a PBL from Custis into Ballston. Interestingly, the county’s repaving plan (the page to which your post links) omits Washington Blvd. to Fairfax Dr., which is a critical part of the Custis to Ballston link.
