ParticipantFor the second day in a row I wimped out on the cold, wet morning ride and rode inside instead – having to spend every day this week in an audit is suffering enough. But I am observing National White Shirt Day, both on the bike and off.

He’s been in New York City only a few months – hasn’t quite learned to spell “oy vey” yet.

ParticipantWent out and picked up a dozen bagels in honor of National Bagel and Lox Day. Last night I observed Pizza Day Eve, but didn’t get a picture.

ParticipantFreezing Paddles: Found a Chevy by the levee (National Day the Music Died Day)

P.S. I think it’s actually an Oldsmobile, but from the era of badge engineering so it might as well have been a Chevy.

With Kitty off in the extremely lower peninsula, the Michigander prize is, as far as I can tell, on hiatus. Unless some other Michigander wants to pick it up …

Striving to be pedantic, they are actually concrete trucks.
When I rode by yesterday morning there were both cement and concrete trucks idling in the Vulcan Materials driveway. You may be wrong about one or another individual truck, but you are correct in the aggregate.

Inscrutable, proprietary, classified, whatever – I still think we should spend a lot of time arguing over it.

For the record, I don’t think Arlington is the wrong side of the river for a BikeArlington-related event.

But my read on that detour was that it would be scary dangerous headed eastbound, because the intersection of 16th & Sycamore is pretty blind. Am I wrong there?
I’ve never had a problem at the intersection of 16th and Sycamore. Perhaps you’re thinking of 16th and Roosevelt?

I agree the 16th and Roosevelt eastbound sightlines are horrible, but more manageable on a bike than in a car (especially a stick shift). From Columbia/16th, I like to take Tuckahoe or Sycamore to 11th and cross Roosevelt to 12th in Madison Manor. This gives the added bonus of the climb to 11th.
Be forewarned, if you are looking to follow consularrider’s route and rejoin the W&OD in Madison Manor, that there is to be a temporary closure of the Powhatan St. entry point because of a sewer project (as of yesterday it was still open).

Or maybe that the road changes from Columbia to 16th at some point along the route?
You re correct the easternmost 1/10th of a mile or so, starting somewhere between Underwood and Tuckahoe Streets, is in Arlington, and likely that’s where the designation changes from Columbia St. to N. 16th St. My posting should have made it clear that I meant “Columbia St., continuing onto N. 16th St.” I hate to think that SteveO might have gotten stuck forever at the corner of Columbia and Tuckahoe because my directions didn’t include how to get from there to Roosevelt St.
