Since the last one got so many good responses here’s another one:

You are a key holding annual member and are walking up to a station with one bike left in it. You notice someone at the kiosk of the station who is putting in their credit card to get a code to check out the bike as a casual user.

So, do you take out the last remaining bike at the dock with your key, even though there is someone else who has already started the slower check out process, or do you wait/move on to another station?

Well geez, I’m gonna get caught. So, duh. I mean if I wasn’t going to be seen that’s an entirely different situation.

Can you post a quick “how to get there from the W&OD”? I’m thinking about trying to make it tonight.

Gallows has a bike lane until Cottage. There is a multi-use path on the right at the intersection of Cottage and Gallows if you prefer not to ride along Gallows over the bridge at I-66. Taking Gallows is okay, in fact it’s easier to get the turn onto Prosperity if you do that. Take the left at the stoplight onto Merrilee, cross Lee Highway and you’ll take the first left onto Strawberry. That part is easy.

The area around Dunn Loring Metro is treacherous. Cars pulling in and out, buses, pedestrians texting/walking, etc. But otherwise, it’s an easy ride.

    To Dickie:

Just a short, heartfelt thank you for your many kindnesses to me this afternoon. Thank you for calling out the cars I did not hear, thank you for looking over your shoulder to see if I was in danger of being dropped, thank you for pacing me back up. You were truly kind and I appreciate it.

This week on Quincy Deck next to W&L High School, American Inline is running its first ever combination skateboard and bike riding camp. There are at least 30 kids with bikes over there, some learning to ride for the first time. They start at 9:00 am and end at 3:00 pm. Greg Keim is the director of American Inline. Um, isn’t there an expiration date on “old” photos? *cough*

Oh wait. Didn’t realize you took this shot on a regular basis. ;)

I LOVE THIS! She far outclasses me.

We are so lucky to have our forum and forum community! I’ve been traveling a bit this summer and have found that none of the other places I’ve been to have a forum like this one. The three cities I visited recently – Evanston, Ill., Charlotte, NC and Denver, CO all have large numbers of cyclists, yet none of them seemed to offer any kind of ongoing connection to the cycling community. Does anyone know of anything I’m missing, especially here in or near Denver where I am now? (I’d love to find a TdF watching event somewhere.)

On the positive side, my Aurora, CO hotel is next to a great 9 mile bike trail into Denver and has bikes we can use for free. I ordered local bike maps before I left home so I’m enjoying riding, but I miss having a way to connect locally here and the kind ongoing conversations about local events, etc. that we’re able to have on our forum!

Thank you, BikeArlington, for starting this forum – I hope other communities will see what we have and develop similar sites. Does anyone know of any other U.S. cities with something like what we have?

Agreed. This site provides hints, suggestions, and encouragement to a wide swath of people who ride bikes. i’m so glad you found ways to ride while you are out of town. Of course you are among the most competent riders I know so that is no surprise.

Cripes! Now I feel bad. I ordered a different one for the Crystal Derby. With the short bustle. My apologies.

I am pleased to report I spoke to one of the members of the Vienna BAC last night and this report is totally false — it has NOT been disbanded. He said Sean MacCall has stepped down from the committee (to focus on his SRTS work), but otherwise it continues intact.

    The reporter really convoluted things.

Then they need to correct the official minutes of the last council meeting.

Perhaps something different is being hashed out. But as far as I can tell they were thanked for their service and disbanded.

I think more that half ride there — I don’t go every week, but when I do, I ride. Dcv and I believe acc also ride there. Of course our fearless leader Dirt rides there and everywhere else, too.

It tends to attract commuting cyclists on their way home, so far. That may change as it gets more popular.

    Liz

Oh gosh, I was thinking most are riding in. I know when it gets very hot some people choose to peel off and ride home rather than come back to the shop.

It’s worth going to talk to Jan at Bikenetics. He is a walking encyclopedia of commuters.
