ParticipantI’d like to be able to do with my bike as far as understanding how it’s put together and how I can fix it, so where do I look for this class?

ParticipantI have an i-phone. In fact at least half of what I post is from the phone.

ParticipantCongratulations! What a great anniversary, what a great story. I’m pleased for you. I hope you have many more years of biking and I hope to see another anniversary post next year.
Fantastic!

ParticipantI can access this site on my phone now. In fact if there is something strange going on trail-wise I’ve pulled over and posted.

ParticipantThought I’d roll out to the Boomerang Bridge (W&OD/495) to gawk. It was very hot and there is a lot of action with asphalt and measuring, talk about pouring your misery down (Garbage running through my head) — a ton of equipment all moving back and forth like targets in a carnival shooting gallery. On a positive note, I am happy with the west approach, much smoother.

ParticipantOh gosh, I love this. Thank you for attempting this project. I want to know where there are bathrooms, and shelter to go inside and warm up during the winter or cool down in the summer, the fire departments just in case someone needs medical assistance or a safe haven.
Love, love, love,

ParticipantBoy, I bet he was sure surprised.
Amazing recovery.
Let’s see, I buy so many things off the street. No, I don’t.
Because they’re hot.ann

ParticipantI take stretching seriously so what I suggest may be overkill.
I stretch after I lift and yes, I lift at least twice a week to maintain upper body strength to wrestle a MTB and stay upright on Spartacus, my road bike. It was the fastest way to build leg strength too. After I lift I spend about 20 minutes stretching. At first it was annoying and boring but eventually it became a habit and I saw progress in my flexibility so I stuck with it. I think it helps. I know my back was beginning to bother me now and then but it doesn’t now.I generally use the same music to cue myself about the order and duration of particular stretches. I start with my legs and work my way up. It is remarkably relaxing.

ParticipantYes, very hot but workable riding in the shade with adequate water. The up side is fewer people to dodge.

ParticipantI just say, “Hey, you mind?” Then I go. Others have done the same to me, I don’t mind. What I’m willing to risk is generally less than the people around me. I say it in a friendly manner and I mean nothing by it. I certainly don’t want to force someone into traffic.

ParticipantAgree with PotomacCyclist — have several backup plans in place. Where would you stop overnight if you had to? Where are good and safe places to stop to buy food/water, where are there likely to be bathrooms? How self-sufficient do you have to be? Riding around here I can probably walk blindfolded into a convenience store but out West you can be by yourself for miles and miles. If you’re carrying a load, practice a bit before you start out. I’d hate to get twenty miles down the road and be forced to either abandon things or force someone else to carry my stuff.

ParticipantYes, a picture would help. Terrible, so very sorry. Especially a vintage bike.

ParticipantI believe in peace, love, and understanding on the trails. I have not a single ounce of competitive blood left in these tired bones. That’s why it would never occur to me to blow past the jackass Mamil who cut me off twice at intersections where I stopped and he didn’t. And I would never dream of calling out “Suck-kahh” or standing up and wiggling my butt at him as I whizzed by. No, it would never happen. Not once, twice, or even three times.

ParticipantThanks, that’s fun.

ParticipantMy highly skilled technical reply is there is a slot-thingy for an extra battery underneath the little gizmo the phone rides in. Think of the housing for the phone as an armored Humvee. It could definitely take a hit. If it gets destroyed, I’m probably right behind it so making a call would be the least of my worries. Garmin – Charmin. I don’t need another electronic gadget.
