ParticipantUnpopular opinion: I love this article.
Every bitter word betrays his feelings of impotence. Of inevitable irrelevance. I finished reading and thought only, “I’m winning.”

Unfortunately, however, the parkits are already showing signs of durability issues where they’re installed on the First ST cycletrack.

The brakes clench fine, but only one side completely releases.
Old-school brakes can have their calipers recentered with an offset brake tool. It’s a really quick adjustment and your local bike shop should have the tool.
Beautiful restoration!

ParticipantThanks for the review!
Do you have any sense yet for how well it captures license plates (especially in low light situations)?

ParticipantI’m also excited about the proposal. And I LOVE the congestion pricing scheme. It probably won’t survive, but that’s okay. Tax people are sneaky. Next we’ll suggest larding a hefty surtax on downtown parking lots! That and more speed cameras along arterials (calibrated to ticket near the 25mph speed limit this time!) and we’ll still get the tax base.

ParticipantThe recently-refreshed Daily Rider website (located at H St NE) is worth a look. Something from their Breezer, Biria, Bella Ciao, Gazelle, or Pilen offerings might work for your wife.

Participant$300 for a Reynolds 853 cross bike.
The seller notes that the bike is Reynolds 853 Pro Team, but LeMond actually mislabeled many of the bikes that year. It’s really 853 “select” (an 853 main triangle with 531 headtube and stays). Still seems like a nice deal on a great steel frame when it’s already built up with older parts.
One of these built up with a cobbled together kit of newer and older parts is my do-everything bike.

also once you have fenders you can have even more fun going “whee!!!” through the puddles and not worry about what you’re wearing
I love doing a double-foot lift and letting out a Whooo-Hooo when splashing through that big puddle that accumulates in the 15th St cycletrack just before the Penn Ave turn! It amuses the tourists almost as much as it amuses me!

ParticipantSoupy again, but riding still will be the highlight of the day!
At least three separate people riding in their work clothes without fenders were sporting hilarious splatter tracks up their backs. Serves them right, as I only noticed their wardrobes because they shoaled me.

ParticipantIn addition to leaving us a big batch of Duplos blocking the cycletrack, the Pride street closures this weekend saw impressive levels of illegal u-turns on Penn. This quadruple illegal turn is particularly impressive! I can’t wait until we get some curbing installed.
