You know, the whole ELITE thing is hilarious to me but I can see how it wouldn’t make sense to someone who didn’t read that epic rant and the replies that followed. I guess there’s something to be said about lurking on a forum before posting!
Perhaps in the glossary someone started, there should be a link to the post.

It’s also time for reflective gear… both for yourself and others. I’ve been handing out a few sets per week for the last 3 weeks. I also invested in a new vest. I usually don’t like reflective vests that much, but I found one that I like. It is made by a Canadian company called Cactus Creek.
A friend has one and I really like the quality and fit of it. I like that it has a long tail down the back to provide some reflectivity from behind… even when I’m in the drops.
I like it (and I like MEC), but I can’t really justify buying another vest. I’ll have to think of an excuse….

I need to get one of these great weather sites you all use bookmarked and open at all times. I figured it was much more wide spread than just MoCo, but MoCo has an awesome “411-911” text messaging system that I was quoting. It’s pretty cool, I don’t know if other counties have it, but I get alerts on all kinds of emergency situations; weather, road closures, accidents, etc.
You could always work for an employer who imagines themselves as Big Brother. Every time there is a weather warning, for the DC area, we get a pop-up window on our computer, an e-mail message to our work account, an e-mail to our personal account, and a voice call to our work phone. (I’m not sure if it’s a text or voice call to our cell phones, because I keep telling them I don’t have one.) I don’t mind the severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings, but the flooding ones rarely apply to most of us.

You can’t expect me to be awake enough to both work my bike AND identify who is riding nearby, can you?
Considering you can probably ride your bike in your sleep, sure we can.

I have an early day tomorrow, in to work by 5am, so riding isn’t really an option (also using it as a clothes-swap day). Hopefully this means I’ll miss any weather-induced traffic delays, since I’ll be heading home a couple hours before rush hour.
Out of curiosity, why can’t you ride in that late — er, early?

DDOT man is harmless. He was fuming as soon as someone sat down. I think we need to buy him a donut. (The last thing he needs is caffeine.)
It sounds like he doesn’t need the sugar from a doughnut, either.

Well, of course not, 3:00 a.m. is in the morning.

Nah, 3:00 a.m. is just as dark as it usually is.

This reminds me of a discussion I once had with a lady who was very anti-helmet (not just helmet laws, but people choosing to wear helmets). She explained to me that because people in general find helmets either uncomfortable or not stylish, they will not wear them.
Stylish? I never look stylish, helmet or not.

I prefer to think we’re committed — or should be.

ParticipantI hope you heal quickly. My experience runs counter to Dirt — I heal much faster when I ignore physical therapy. (After the mandatory post-op physical therapy visit when I had my ITB replacement/bone graft/screw job on my knee, I didn’t go back.) Dirt’s right, though, find out what you can and can’t do and then learn the difference between pain and discomfort. Pain can and often does mean you’re doing too much, while discomfort just means you’re pushing yourself. Just don’t do anything stupid — that’s the “do as I say, not as I do” part.

ParticipantJust remember not to take the WWDD approach to extremes — if I start singing, ,fluffy bunnies everyhwere will die and I rarely have a camera along to take any pictures.
I have to admit that having virtually no one around for at least 50% of my riding probably does keep me from losing it more often.
