June 29, 2012 at 5:12 pm in reply to: Dangerous trail join to Custis Trail desperately needs a stop sign #944579

ParticipantI thought there was a (vague) sign on the Custis Trail heading eastbound. (I’ll have to look tomorrow morning.) I don’t think people will stop, though — if they don’t stop for red lights on Fairfax Drive, why stop for a Stop sign on the trail? I’ve wondered about one of those mirrors, but can’t see a good spot to put it.

ParticipantAre they usable? When I rode by this morning, long before any tourists, I noticed that the doors were padlocked.

Just dont run over the heat-exhaustion bodies lying along the path (particularly if its me)
Ring your bell first and remember, it’s “running over” and not “on your left.”

If you are down on the MVT you will often run into random Ft. Myer/Pentagoners jogging around at 5am or so, with that being their mid-morning run. Insane.
Which is why I will shoot to be off the MVT by 4:30 a.m. or so tomorrow. (During the week I’m never close to being on the trail that late.)

I hate being trendy; but, since no one else has said it — given the avatar and question — I’ve got to say it:
That’s a clown question bro!

That only works with the early-riser types (people who are out at 7:00 a.m. during vacation are nutso).
Yeah, why wait that late?
Saturdays at 4:00 a.m. or so, I often get “good morning” comments from those I find walking on the trail.

Me: middle aged white guy with a beard, sunglasses, and a bike helmetLooking for my long lost brother, please contact me if you see him.
I think I saw him wearing a black jersey…. Nope, not him, no sunglasses. I’ll keep my eyes peeled this afternoon, though.

are we doppelgangers or something? I find it hard to believe anyone else is quite as ugly!
I think it’s close enough to fool tourists….

(The flash washes the beard out a bit — it’s not quite that grey.)

On weekend MVT rides, I ding my bell every 5-10 seconds. Which is why I almost never ride the MVT on weekends…and if I do, I don’t do it on any sort of time schedule.
I used to feel the same way, but lately I’ve been doing some Saturday morning rides. If you’re off the MVT by 4:30 a.m., it’s not bad.

I’d add it’s better than any day — good, if there is such a thing, or bad — on Metro.

ParticipantToo bad there’s not a Time’s Square-like giant video screen in Ballston.

ParticipantWhile I’m not going to hazard a guess on the location, I see that I only need to get a more colorful helmet — mine’s all black — so I can cause all sorts of mayhem and blame it on Certifried. Tourists beware!

ParticipantI’ve been stopped for a red light and had one ro two ride by and run it, but never that many. All too often — not in this heat, though — I use it as an incentive to try and catch them.
This morning I did see 7+ CaBi riders not bother stopping for a red light. They were crossing the intersection I was approaching and it was red for them when they were at least 100 feet away. One did apologize when I pointed out that my traffic signal was green. (A car in the other lane, next to me and behind me, had to stop for the last of them.)
