Ballston Mall use to be that “huge mall way out in the suburbs that no one would possibly go to!!!” That was before Tysons, White Flint and the current montgomery mall.
No, it was Parkington. It was never called a “mall” until it became Ballston Commons Mall. When Springfield Mall opened, like Tysons Corner, it was a “day trip” for a Saturday.

I’d be more likely to accept this reason if not for your later post; which included “Thank you for putting a smirk on my face—the only thing better would have been if you had seen me closing on you on the uphills while riding no-hands.” Uphill with no hands and you can’t remove a glove to use an iPhone?
(There goes any incentive to ride with no hands or get an i{hone.)

now you must purchase and wear a kit based on this jersey and ride around for a day holding a sign that says “please give me my 80s street cred back!”
You could have at least posted the link to that jersey
Hey! It’s relatively cheap — maybe it could be the forum jersey? (One of the reviews even states, “Probably the best cycling jersey on the market.”)

ParticipantLike Riley, I’m up for just about anything, although I might even go for the Velcro strap. The “problem” with clothing, even a jersey, is that it gets covered up at some point during the year. A strap or sticker or pannier/backpack stencil is that you only see it from one direction. (Us slow pokes will notice it when we get passed — but none of us will see a sticker on the back of a helmet when coming towards each other.)
For what it’s worth, I always thought eh BikeArlington jersey was the “unofficial” jersey of the forum

I vote for tattoos, branding and tongue piercings.
[In reality, I will never get any of those. But I thought it would be neat to suggest on the forum.)
So you’d go with a nose ring? I think we have a winner!

Thanks for doing this. Personally, I think the second question, “How often would you like to goof off?” should haev been “How often would you like to get together with forum members to goof off?” Otherwise, I’d answer it “all the time”!

Who wants to field a team and ride in the Little 500? The biggest hurdle is becoming full time students at Indiana.
Becoming full-time students for the year.
Recently, I was thinking of building up a Little 500 bike, for running errands and such.

On the bikepath?
Yes, on the river side. He seemed to have driven through from the marina side and was sitting “blocking” the river side of the tunnel, the car’s trunk still in the tunnel. There was just enough room to pass. (A couple of months ago I saw a NPS police car drive through the southern tunnel.)

They’re back with a vengeance. Right in the crosswalk. This morning there was even an officer parked in his car right next to them, so I couldn’t even kick one out of the way as I rode by.
I saw them this morning, since it was one of the rare times I took the Geroge Mason Memorial Bridge into work. The cop wasn’t there, though — he was sitting in his car in the tunnel under the Humpback Bridge.

I just thought I’d point it out. Oh, well, I guess I need to dig out my rec.bikes.racing jersey, since it mentions both trolls and Spam….

I’m probably not going to make it tonight since I just got home from a bad wipeout on my bike. I did a spectacular splat on one of the boardwalks near Mt Vernon (covered in algae, very slippery). Now have my first black eye, some road rash (minor), but think I might have broken something in my hand so am heading to urgent care now. Grrrrrr
Ouch! I hope nothing’s broken. I hope you’re feeling better soon.

What would you say to someone who wants to do a short commute, mostly short weekend rides, an occasional longer weekend ride, and who already has a mountain bike for dirt and gravel trails?
If the MTB has knobby tires, replace them with something smoother and ride it. If it turns out you like the commute and want to do longer weekend rides, then think about getting something else. You may decide you like the MTB. If you’ve already got bike, get out there and ride it.
