Oh, I’m pretty sure that a bunch of people told you to consider that when you were contemplating the Surly frame, right !?
But you couldn’t resist the purple sparkle.
Yes and yes.

This is so purdy. I’d have a fleet of Salsas, if I had my way.
Will you be bringing it to pancake club so we can drool over it?
Sure! It’s such a nice bike. The guy I bought it from had built it up, and put on really nice components! We (and I mean dkel) already removed the front rack and will change out the pedals and tires and “dial in” the fenders. I’ve lost my granny gear, so something will need to change there (me or the gearing)! The fenders are so funny – never having had them before.

ParticipantOh, I forgot to post my huge news. Despite all the heckling/trolling of you FG riders, I went out and bought one. Brakeless too!

Now I’ll just need to learn to ride it. Should be fun. Even the 24″ might end up being a tad small, but figure an inch short on inseam is probably not the end of the world for learning. If I decide that this is something worth doing more seriously I’d probably get a 29″ (or larger!) model.

ParticipantYou should really consider doing BAFS on that.

How does this impact N as it relates to S?

It’s only half a bike, so any effect should be minimal. Really, it’s only about a quarter of a bike. It should barely register.

Truth be told, I only told my wife that I was picking up some “bike parts”. Technically, I believe this is true, since it is not a *bi*cycle. Though I suspect she’ll roll her eyes when she learns the truth. That is, I’ll admit, probably the appropriate response for anyone that brings home a unicycle.

Yes! One of the motivations was to have a slower “bike” to ride on the short loops with the kids. Having said that, the older one is about to get gears — so not sure how that will work out.

Given the knobby tires, do you have off-road ambitions for this thing?

slicks seem like an almost comical level of wishful thinking, no?

Not really, though that sounds fun — once I have attained some level of proficiency just staying upright.

I was briefly very disturbed by this question, because N and S are, appropriately enough, the initials of myself and my eye-rolling, definitely-not-partner-in-bike-drooling female human cohabitant respectively. Though I did get upgraded to s-2 when the possibility of a vintage Cannondale came up.

Theres a guy in Germantown that has done the MoCo epic (50 mile MTB ride) on a unicycle several times. I’ve seen him on the trail and he’s pretty badass.

Agree. Did the MoCo a couple of years ago and there were 2 unicycles riding that day. They both were cranking out respectable travel rates.
