Jason, you will love the CGs. They are a bit more delicate that tank-like tires like the Gatorskins, but the ride is worth it.

Now, going back in time, if you chose to ride Vittoria tubies, then you will have great difficulty going back to clinchers, but that is another conversation entirely (shamefully remembers having no tubular wheels at present).

Just curious, are all you LGG’ers running 120tpi?

I am, yes. Seems pointless to get a potentially nicer tire and then buy the cheaper stiffer version. Also the 120 tpi version is dual compound (tougher in the middle) whereas the 60tpi is not.

60 on my fixie, because through some REI discount finagling, I was able to get the pair for $40 or so. They’re really clever with the getting you to buy stuff, these REI people.

I don’t know offhand what it is on the Colossal (they came stock, they’re nice, so I don’t look at them), but I suspect that’s 60 too.

They’re plenty good at 60, but I didn’t know about this dual-compound business. Definitely going 120 when I wear these out.

Yea, that’s the Velo article I was referring to. Damn, didn’t realize they are almost half the price. Dat ain’t right! Oh well, I least I have cool green stripe, which has to be worth at least an extra $20 per tire 😡

Yeah, I’m running the 120tpi version. They definitely don’t feel as fast/supple as the 700×23 GP4000S II w/ latex tubes on my road bike, but I think that’s a pretty high bar. They are nice, though; if they ward off flats and I can keep finding them for less than $40, I’ll probably keep buying these.

I don’t know what Conti changed specifically (aside from marketing terms) between the GP4000S and GP4000S II, but you’re absolutely right – those tires roll great, especially with latex tubes. The old non-IIs were kind meh. Only better tire I’ve come across are the Vittoria Open Corsas.

Agreed! I ran Open Corsas for a couple rides when I found some for $35, but I was terrified of flatting them :-) probably unfounded. They were super smooth, though. I sold them installed on my previous road bike.

The 60 has the same compound throughout, so it shouldn’t really wear faster. The 120 has a softer compound on the sides though.

Yes. 120tpi. They were the same price online as the 60 tpi at REI so I went online.

Just installed a new Deore 9 Sp 44T chainring, new chain, rear casette and brake pads. Rain/beater bike handles great now and makes almost no noise. not bad for $70 in replacement parts.

I was set on a Cannondale Synapse 5 until I rode this. Maybe I’m not the roadie I thought I was. Maiden adventure tomorrow.

That thing looks hot! Between that and that new specialized do-everything others posted on a previous thread, I’m kinda jealous I am not in the market for one of these…..must be strong, for I am venturing into N+divorce papers territory.

Ha! I know the feeling. Seems I’m the only one at my house who appreciates the new bike. I sold a sizable chunk of my Matchbox car collection as well as my Trek FX 7.3 to fund this bike. Paid for it completely outside of my regular income stream. Still no love.

Is that the Giant Anyroad? Snazzy looking bike!

I’m working on selling old bikes to get some kind of “do everything” bike too. Sell two bikes and get one new one. An overall decrease in bikes (heresy!) so my other half has to be approve…right?

I sure hope so. Other half approval is low in my neck of the woods. In time all will be well.

It is the Anyroad 1. I’ve only got a couple miles on it but they were some fun miles. I decided I liked the comfort and quite literally “any road” ability of this over a more traditional road bike (which I was originally after). I had no intention to buy this until it was suggested. When I took it for a spin it felt like home, and those disc brakes are fantastic. I actually had to lock up the rear on my test ride to avoid being backed into by a car pulling out into the main. It climbed pretty well too – maybe not as spritely as the Synapse I was also testing but so much more fun.

Before you think the grass is greener, it’s not necessarily a good thing for the budget when both adults in the family support bike purchases…
