screw 11, I’m going straight to 12. it’ll be much better.

Screw 12, wait for the 18 speed, no more guessing with the 11-28!

I used Merlin, although I did a quick check and the 105 is up to $418 shipped. They do run specials now and then.

Oh, well you can definitely get SRAM 36/52 sets — and a 36/50 combination. And Specialized apparently (that’s what’s on my Quarq), not sure if those are just something else rebranded. Praxis also has 36/52 (and 36/50) ring combinations. Granted, I haven’t looked at the Shimano offerings.

I’m running a 50t designed for use with a 34t but am running a 36t. It works fine in practice (no chain drops), though I’m sure there would be some small advantage to using the 50t designed for use w/ 36t.

You’d be fine running a 36 with a 50 – it’s when you run a 52 that’s not made to be run with a 36 that you might run into chain drop issues. Don’t quote me on this, but I suspect specialized rings are made by praxis – after having seen some praxis rings in person, there’s a lot of similarities in the shift ramp design. I also can’t recall the name of the OEM that makes the specialized cranks, but they’ve got a ton of options for spiders/rings.

Niagara Cycle (Amazon) is selling these guys for $5 per bearing. So you need 2 for a Shimano (or GXP with their extra sleeve/washer kit) bottom bracket. A $10 BB isn’t bad. You can borrow my bearing press.

I have no idea why I ordered 3 (and odd number) …

Speaking of 36/46; these were $140 on ebay with BB. These are gonna get 4iii power meter for my commuter.

Curious to hear how this works out if/when you actually get it. I’ve been thinking of getting a Stages for my Cinelli, but the 4iii is $200 cheaper, so that’s obviously enticing.

Yeah I will let you know. The Stages was $700 for Rival, so this is $350 cheaper (or half the price) for me.

Yeah, I am addicted to data. I am so strapped for time that I am trying to make the workouts a little more deliberate. We’ll see. The $350 price point is finally low enough to justify

Ugh, they only support OCT crank arms, so I’d have to pick up a new NDS crank arm for my Omniums. Still cheaper than Stages though…

Ah, well they may support the Omnium (assuming flat surface and clearance), but just haven’t tested?

Lots of left crank arms on ebay from folks that have bought Stages.

For me, it was hard to imagine being without a crankset for the ship-to-factory calibration. Plus I need new rings soon. And a new BB. So this wasn’t much more than the cost of rings and a BB — and going back to SRAM crankset on the commuter (instead of CX-50) means I can swap the arm onto my road bike if needed.

As for cleaning, I would just use a rag and slide it / run it in between the cogs. I like having clean cassettes too, but don’t think it is worth removing the cassette.

This! I have the tools to take the cassette off, but with end-of-Freezing-Saddles riding demands and my chain emitting death rattles, I went the rag route, and voilà!

It’s not thoroughly degreased, but it’s a vast improvement, and I’m not currently trying in vain to reassemble my cassette. As a bonus:

Both the chain box and the glass are empty now. 😎

I have these on the Colossal and now on the fixie, and they’re awesome. Fast (for me) and comfy, but will puncture easily if you pump em up to 105 like the sidewall thinks is appropriate.
