ParticipantI have a Chrome backpack that I’ve worn at least four days a week, every week, for the last three years. It’s fantastic. It wasn’t until sometime in year 3 that it didn’t look brand new anymore. The only time anything inside it has ever gotten wet was when something inside the bag leaked, and I’ve ridden in some downpours. One of the strap tensioners stopped working and they replaced it under warranty (lifetime). They are pricey, but they are awesome bags and I keep looking for excuses to get a second one.

ParticipantIn the meantime, doing what I can to prepare for more BAFS riding…

All worn today. The Sidi boots really did make a difference, the Castelli Wind tights are certainly warmer than the “not Wind” bibs I usually ride in.

ParticipantAnd thanks to Dirt and the Bikenetic guys for my new headset. It feels great and looks better without the canti hanger.

I have the same boots (well, mine are the Diablos, those look like the Hydros?). Love them, except the velcro on the neoprene cuffs (more on the left side, which is the foot I unclip) lost most of its grabbiness after one season and I had to improvise an elastic band to hold them in place because they kept coming undone during rides. But just adding the elastic band completely fixed the problem. Kinda annoying from such expensive boots, but whatever.

ParticipantHave you considered reaching out to Sidi? In Italy they were very responsive (never had reason to contact them since I moved to the U.S.).

I should…but at this point my improvised solution, which cost me nothing in terms of money or time, works so well I don’t really even care enough to go through the rigamarole.

ParticipantI’m sure Planet Bike is a great company and all, but IMHO their fenders SUCK. So yesterday I went on a mission to replace the set that was on my FG commuter. Initially, I wanted the PDW city fenders, but BicycleSpace didn’t have them and I was having a bit of sticker shock, and I wanted to get the old ones replaced before today’s ride in the rain. Checked out the Velo Orange stuff instead…seemed pretty solid and was half the price of the PDW stuff. I didn’t really want chrome, but given that all the components on my commuter are chrome, I figured it kinda made sense in this case. Pretty happy after one day’s use, but man were things a pain in the ass to install.

They do “tie the room together” – imho.

Interesting, I’ve had my PB’s on the Caadx for 2 years now and put them through hell without any issue. The front one rattles a little if I am riding one handed, but other than that they’ve been great. Good coverage, easy to install, cheap, durable. I did add my own mud flap on the front wheel which added to the splash protection… all in all pretty satisfied so far.

ParticipantAfter crashing out due to wind getting under my Chrome bag last week, I broke down and got a Revelate Design Frame Bag. A little pricey but easily one of the best purchases I’ve made in a long time. Here’s my lazy cat trying to get into last night:

ParticipantDisconcertingly expensive, but this: https://www.showerspass.com/products/mens-amsterdam-jacket
It’s spiffy, and I was plenty warm this morning with just my merino jersey underneath.
Also, really spiffy. The Wife said it fixed my temporary unbeardedness, even.

I’ve had Velo Orange fenders on my commuter for about 2 years and love them. I never think about them, I just stay dry. And they are beautiful. Actually, contradicting my “I never think about them”, you should check all the nuts and make sure they’re still tight after a few rides.
