ParticipantEarly Xmas gift! Now I need to replace my hybrid with a cross bike so my maintenance manual will work with all my bikes!

ParticipantLooks like I have a longer gap between new bikes than most (all) here. My last bike purchase was my Fuji mountain bike, way back in late 2009. Wow, has it really been 5 years already?
I could almost count CaBi as a “bike purchase” since I’ve ridden those bikes more often than I’ve ridden my own bikes, especially over the past few years. I signed up with CaBi a week after the service started in Sept. 2010. I wore out the first bike key (probably because I used it so much?). It stopped working one day after my one-year anniversary. At first I thought it was programmed to do that, but I learned that this didn’t happen to other people.
My last bike-related purchase? A pair of Pearl Izumi triathlon shorts a couple weeks ago. I don’t like the thick chamois pads on road bike shorts, and the Pearl Izumi shorts feel much better than the De Soto shorts I’ve bought in the past. (The De Sotos have awkward seams that leave marks on my quads. I used to like them, until I found that the PI shorts don’t have those seams.) I bought the shorts even though I’m still not riding much at all. Zero rides in the past month and only 3 or 4 short rides total since early September (because of my quad issues). I’m more of a swimmer than a cyclist right now. Hopefully that changes in a couple weeks and I can get back on the bikes again.
P.S. I see that I have a new tagline: “I spend all day thinking about bikes and talking to people on the internet about them.” Awesome

Niiiice. I’ve been extremely happy with my State after a year and about 1700 miles. The bottom bracket definitely needed a greasing out of the box and the cog needed tightening (let me know if you want to use my tools), but it has been super reliable and makes a really good ride-into-town-and-not-really-care-about-theft bike. And as you witnessed, it got me through 50 States just fine…also, the Cap2Cap century.

ParticipantOh sweet I didn’t even realize you were riding a State. That bike was great!
Thanks so much for the offer for a tool loaner but I might as well buy it for when I make everyone in the house ride fixed one day.

ParticipantWife got me one of these for Christmas. Needless to say it will allow me to power my team to victory for FS2015!

ParticipantDon’t misunderestima-mate the might of the all-knowing and all-seeing Bike Lobby.

I received a coupon card from Sports Authority this month. It didn’t say what the value was, only that it was somewhere between $5 and $500. SA isn’t the greatest place to go for bike-related purchases, but I thought I could still find something of value. Either cycling or running-related.
I couldn’t decide on much, but I found Chamois Glide there. Most places don’t carry it. (The same company that makes Body Glide, which many runners and triathletes use to prevent chafing.) I picked up a few containers. I discovered that the coupon card was worth $15. If it had been a $500 card, I would have gone back and tried to find other items to purchase.

ParticipantBar mitts are great… they mean I needed to order bar-end brake levers, new brake cable / housing and bar tape. Plus I was able to get a new 11 in 1 Park Tools hex wrench thingy.
$52.13
God bless NashBar.

Thanks. It’s a total blast to ride but it’s also a really serious work out. What I can’t wait for is to put Black Floyds on it (slicks) and use it as my main bike this spring, summer, and fall.
