Saw it at the shop the other day! That’s a monster! Congrats.

I look forward to a review…
+1 I’d like something like that especially if it automatically erases old video files. I don’t want to bother connecting to a computer unless there is a video I know I want to save.

How’d you convince Dave to buy a fancy bike?

Bribed him with a trip to explore the Idaho 50 Hot Springs Route and our good friends at Bikenetic helped convince him this would be perfect!

There’s a way to format the card from the camera with a few button presses, but I haven’t gotten that down yet. recording is fine, but having cable connection issues at the moment. full write up and vids to come…

Did you order a spacer bell, or a spacer mount for a bell you’d already ordered?

I ordered a bell that wouldn’t fit on my bars, returned that, ordered a spacer bell, then realized I probably could have ordered a spacer mount and used the bell I had originally bought. Whatever. The current bell has a very clear tone that I like better than the other bell, though the other one was black, which is kind of cool (I believe it was the same one you have, Phatboing).

ParticipantThe basic black Incredibell FTW! The thumb hammer rotates so you can swing it into perfect position for on the hoods or in the drops. Nice when a $10 bike part functions exactly as intended.

ParticipantThe black is totally cool, yes. A spacer mount may be on its way.

Unfortunately the basic incredibell only works with old-school thin handlebars, not the 31.8 standard. they’ve got other models which do fit 31.8 handlebars, and other models which do not. To large degree, I think they need to get a handle on their product line–I’m not convinced that the nine variations on the same basic design (not counting color choices) are actually distinct enough to warrant producing all of them. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a bike shop that carried all of them, and this is kind of a pain when you’re looking to buy one.

ParticipantFor a poor man’s Incredibell mount on the steerer tube, I did the following on my old bike:
1. Punched holes as needed through a plastic bar end cap from handlebar tape so that a smallish zip tie could go through it near one end and leave as much exposed end cap as possible (a good synthetic wine cork would probably work as well). My cap was from Planet Bike tape and I didn’t need it because the bar ends were filled with shifters!
2. Cut out a one inch square piece of old inner tube
3. With inner tube square against the spacers under the end cap for a little added grip to keep the setup from sliding around, I ran a zip tie around the steerer tube spacers and through the hole in the bar end cap to secure it. The bar end cap was a good diameter for the Incredibell I had on my trekking bars and flat bars before that, so I just mounted it to the jury rigged end cap and was good to go.
I had black spacers so the inner tube and black plastic end cap didn’t stand out too much. Here’s a pic, grainy in quality, but it’s all I have here.

I’ve always hated the ping sound of the standard Incredibell. My other bike has the Incredibell Duet, which is brass, and has a really nice tone, but doesn’t fit the 31.8 bar on my new bike. The new bike has the Portland Design Works Alexander Graham on it (yes, it’s really called that…), and that thing sounds gorgeous! It’s also louder than the Duet. In any case, I’ll always vote for the brass bell over one of those ping-ers.

ParticipantNew crank and wheelset. Special thanks to Hozn for doing pretty much all the work installing the BB and crank…would’ve been nearly impossible otherwise.
