ParticipantVelo Orange fenders:
They may be fabulous, but:
A) they’re a pain in the ar$e to install, and
they don’t come in black, so now I have to take them off, paint them, and *reinstall* them!
Aaaaaarrggghh! 😮 I haven’t even trimmed the stays yet!
(They’re still fabulous! Look how far down they come behind the front wheel! That’s even without the mud flaps that I have on order!)

ParticipantYou’re not really going to paint those fenders are you!? I would think that is the whole point of having Velo Orange fenders. If you want black fenders, SKS and PlanetBike make an assortment of easy-to-install options ….

Not only did I buy my VO fenders from Bikenetics, I paid them to install them. Sweet!

Noooo! Don’t paint those babies! First off, they look awesome, plus the paint will chip and make them look awful, and then Randoguy will have to ride back from Alabama just to slap you in the face….

I’ll have to refer to none other than the venerable Dirt on this one: pics.
I could have gone with some SKS or even Planet Bike fenders in black, but I couldn’t get the coverage I wanted in combination with the width that I needed. I was especially disappointed with the SKS Longboards, which are not as long when wide enough for knobby 41s (why they are still called “long” I don’t know). The polished aluminum is nice to look at, but it just doesn’t go with the Straggler. All that said, after last night’s installation adventure, I’ll be waiting a little while before I’m ready to take the damn things off and put them on again.

I looked at their website: that thing looks great! Makes me think I need one (though I don’t know why I would).

Do I like this post, or dislike it? I’m not sure.
