W&OD, Saturday, 1-21-2012

I rode the trail from the Custis intersection to Reston Town Center this morning. It was completely ice and/or snow covered. The bridges had between an inch and two inches of snow covered with ice. Most of the trail was crusty ice with occasional ice covered snow patches. As I rode back around noon some small areas of the trail had cleared and were just wet. It will be cold again tonight and won’t warm up again until day time Monday, so expect ice issues for the Monday morning commute.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately I won’t be able to report on my monday commute in as I’ve been officially ordered OFF the bike for the foreseeable future. Gawd Metro is just gonna plain suck

All you folks that have your studded tires should be quite happy with Monday’s morning commute. I just rode the section of the W&OD near west st and the bridge over broad st. Heading towards DC, there are at least three patches of chunky black ice between shreve rd and the bridge over broad st.

The bridge itself had about half an inch of snow covered by a little ice, it was super fun and I giggled like crazy, but wouldn’t want to have to deal with that on the commute. go slow and be safe in the morning!

Herndon to Reston was well plowed by Monday morning, save for the bridges. I took the MTB but on standard mud knobbies, and had NO issues. Rather pleasant.

Back on the roadie today, horray thaw!
