Somehow not nearly as bad as I was expecting. The winds seemed to moderate as the sun rose, so even riding due north wasn’t terrible. Uphill into the headwind wasn’t awesome, but didn’t seem worse today than other windy days.

Agreed. I got a late start — by 10am it was just a normal windy winter day, not great, but not terrible.

I swear I had a headwind in both directions for my breakfast run this morning. However, since my devious Top Secret spying has determined that Lentement considers me an “enemy agent,” I was not about to let the weather deter me from my usual bike ride (plus a little extra, just to be annoying). ;)

About half way thru my 45 minute commute this morning, I laughed out loud as I realized that I still didn’t know which way the wind was blowing. I would go from flying down the road with a tailwind to being basically stopped in my tracks by a headwind.

Luckily by the time I got out of Arlington and into more open spaces, it turned out to be a tailwind!

Well, it’s finally above freezing, but we’ll still have the strong blustery winds for our rides home. :D

But I think I’ll skip doing any Hains Point loops on the way.

Me, riding in eastbound along the W&OD this AM: “Holy smokes, this is awesome!” “Man, this is gonna suck on the way home.”

Me, riding home westbound along the W&OD this evening: “Yup, I was right about that.” “But it still beats the alternatives…”

And before this morning, I had never accelerated from a standing stop on level ground merely by picking up both feet…

Must be what it’s like riding a motorcycle. (Something I’ve never done but have some interest in trying.)

    There are advantages to being a soul-less, cute-child and cute-dog “disliker.” ;)

I just took a CaBi ride. It was beautiful out there!

But maybe everything is relative after yesterday. ;)

    Fixed that for you.

Ok, 4 pm and the report from NWS at Reagan National is 20 mph wind from the SW gusting to 25 mph. No fun riding south down the MVT and turning west on the 4MRT. I guess I’m going to have to work to earn this year’s pi. At least it’s 58°F. sigh

I went skiing once on a night that was so windy the ski racks blew over (and they don’t present much surface area to the wind). On the flats around the lodge, I extended my arms like a sail and just took off flying forward.

I guess it’s time to face that headwind again. :(

Postscript: It wasn’t bad at all. Had a lovely relaxed ride home. I’m glad it’s Friday, though. I think I’m still worn out from yesterday.

Winds out of the south, you’ll have to settle for the Ohio Dr. segment.

    Got it! http://www.strava.com/segments/3206273
