We are preparing for the final volunteer bicycle and pedestrian count of 2010 in beautiful mid-September Arlington. This is the biggest annual count event, involving communities all across the country. The combined results improve our understanding of walking and cycling patterns and demand, and help evaluate the success of encouraging, planning, and engineering for active transportation.

Please join us on Thursday, September 16th and / or Saturday, September 18th … and we won’t ask again for an entire year!

The results you have already collected helped convince the County Board that bicycle and pedestrian transportation should be taken seriously, and counted regularly. The Board in turn authorized a significant investment in automated count equipment. The automatic counters will do a great job day and night, in rain, snow, heat and humidity, all year round, at locations across the county. They help establish an invaluable baseline of data, but will never replace the eyes and ears of human observers.

To help conclude the count year with a sell-out event, please email bikepedcounts@arlingtonva.us with your preferred times and locations.
