Why a separate domain for the forum, and not just put it under bikearlington.com/forums? The latter would increase your search ranking.

And why a .com and not a .org site?

    Thanks!

BikeArlington.com has been around for years; it’s one of a family of websites offered by Arlington County Commuter Services (ACCS). They’re all “dot-coms;” I couldn’t tell you if “dot-org” was even considered. That’s a decision that was made way back when. The forum is new, and it’s ACCS’ first one. Since we were under a deadline and had no experience with the forum software, we decided to have it hosted by a company that specializes in hosting forums. So the forum isn’t on the same server as BikeArlington.com. It may be that we still could have made the URL BikeArlington.com/forum or /forums, and it may be that we could still do that. I’ll look into it when I have the time. But when I set it up, the basic instructions I had in front of me included choosing a free domain name. Being in a hurry, I didn’t look for other options. I chose BikeArlingtonForum.com. To make the forum .org when the website is .com would have been more confusing, I think. BikeArlington.com/forum does redirect to the forum.
