This is a makeup ride for the MLK ride I postponed a couple of weeks ago due to snowy-slippy weather.
On Sunday 1/28/24, Team 14 is doing a group ride from Hyattsville Vigilante to the Washington Monument (through DC), then back up to Vigilante (via the ART). It’s forecasted to be raining, following a few days of rain, so expect a cold, miserable time 😀
We will be rolling at 10am. If you want to get coffee, please go there earlier so you can be ready to roll at 10am. Pro tip: order ahead on their site before you get there because the line is usually long at this time:

Please check here (in this thread) for the latest info, such as go/no-go. If I don’t say otherwise, it’s a GO!
January 24, 2024 at 1:35 pm #1130108Steve OParticipantDo you have an ETA for the Washington Monument?
If so, I may suggest a companion ride that starts there, goes to Vigilante and returns, allowing some riders who want to limit their exposure to Muhrlanders to just one leg of the ride.
January 24, 2024 at 1:46 pm #1130109JuddParticipantBe careful drevil. This might be a Steve O trap to put a hit on Team 14 and try to reclaim the Bollard Buster name.
January 24, 2024 at 5:16 pm #1130151drevilParticipantSteve O, good question about our ETA to the Monument. It’s a little hard to guess since I don’t know who’s joining, but if I had to, I’d say no later than 11:30? We’ll play it by ear, and I’ll make sure we have each other’s contact info.
Judd, you’re right. That’s why I’m meeting at the Monument so that I can have a 360 degree view of anyone trying to sneak up behind me 😀
January 24, 2024 at 5:39 pm #1130155LhasaCMParticipantSteve O – is it OK if DC residents join your companion ride for the return leg? That way, I could keep my exposure to both states’ residents in balance.
January 25, 2024 at 9:10 am #1130205rumipumiParticipantI plan to poncho up
January 25, 2024 at 1:03 pm #1130216Steve OParticipantI’m not positive I will be able to join. Still sorting through some things.
That said, anyone who would rather ride the opposite way should plan to be at the Washington Monument by 11:15 or so and keep an eye out for Ricky and friends. I will confirm or non-confirm my own attendance by Saturday.
January 27, 2024 at 8:01 pm #1130428Steve OParticipantI’m going! I will be at the Monument prior to the arrival of Team 14 and hangers on – prob around 11:15-11:30 depending on communication from drevil
January 27, 2024 at 11:06 pm #1130445drevilParticipantYay! FYI, I tweaked the route slightly. On miles 2.4-3.9, we are going up Newton St now. We originally were going to trace the East Coast Greenway route, but I don’t like how many turns there are.
Not sure how miserable this ride will be, but I guess we’ll find out tomorrow! 😀 Still trying to figure out what rain gear I’ll be wearing…
Cheers, and remember we are rolling out at 10am from Vigilante coffee in Hyattsville!

@capitalweather
8am update 1/28Sunday Digit: 3/10 – We’re water-logged after the heavy overnight rain and stuck in the 40s. But just some occasional lighter showers late morning into evening shouldn’t be as soggy as it could’ve been
January 28, 2024 at 4:59 pm #1130505drevilParticipantPics from today’s ride. Thanks to all that attended!
- 3 x Team 14 – The Real Authentic Bollard Busters (Accept No Imitations)
- 1 x Team 13 – The Real Original Bollard Busters
- 1 x Bollard Busters 2024 (Back off, you impostors!)
- 1 x Team 10 – The Tenacious Tenspeeds
- 1 x Team 20 – Bad Captain, Never Mind the Bollards
- 1 x Team 24 – Dead Last
Since there was 3 from T.R.A.B.B.A.N.I., they were the best Bollard team of the day 😉 😀
January 28, 2024 at 7:56 pm #1130523Sophie CWParticipantThanks again for this ride as it inspired me to ride more in the rain! The photos came out great. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks to Steve for the red valve caps too!
