ParticipantI always thought it was “The Arlington Triangle.”
Oh well – +1 for “Arlington Loop!” (exclamation point included)

ParticipantI’m guessing “Bowling For Tourists” (BFT) doesn’t promote the kind of riding culture we want here in the county?
Sorry. I had to say that.
I like “The Arlington Triangle”. Any mention of “bike” in the name is a bad thing. It needs to be somewhat inclusive. Lots of people run/walk/slither that loop… or parts of it.

Don’t get me going on acronyms. “Fantastic Arlington Recreational Track” comes to mind.
My most sincere apologies for that last comment. I’ll do better next time.

ParticipantThe Arlington Triangle sounds a little spooky to me. Do people disappear there?

Commuters aren’t going around the Loop to get to work, rather they’re using chunks of it. I’m not very creative so my suggestions are limited, but I wanted to mention that maybe try not to focus on synonyms for Loop or words that imply that it’s a circular trail. It’s a transit network just like the metro is – although I don’t think people ride that for fun
But I think its main distinction/advantage is that it is a loop – same as the Circle line on the London tube, the Circulator bus here in DC, and the Beltway. It implies that it goes through the entire county, not just a section of it.

Well, now you’ve done it. You left out “hop”.

Bring it on! I think Dillon’s Commuter Buses have been driven exclusively by Suicide Bunnies for the last few years. That’s how I learned the name “Dances With Buses”.
Arlington Triangle is still my fave… Even if we lose a few ships and planes into it now and then.

I do. Go down Custis trail in the morning; come back on W&OD in the afternoon. Collapse on couch and eat ice cream in the evening.
This is my favorite Fri Aft ride. Now adding a stop at the Bluemont Disc Golf course.

and horseback riders…
As a member of the general public (not BA) I personally feel like the word “Loop” implies a recreational, fitness trail. Even though many people use it for this purpose, I think the main goal is to really make people aware that it is also widely used as a transportation corridor. Commuters aren’t going around the Loop to get to work, rather they’re using chunks of it. I’m not very creative so my suggestions are limited, but I wanted to mention that maybe try not to focus on synonyms for Loop or words that imply that it’s a circular trail. I actually ride about 3/4 of the loop on a daily basis to get to work (or can ride the other 1/4 for a short route). I regularly see other riders who are doing something similar, sometimes the entire loop plus, to add extra milage for training or exercise. I think one of the main points here is to work on the network idea that you mentioned, but similiar to the Beltway Inner and Outer Loops, the commuters are not driving all the way around I-495, so I wouldn’t think the loop term would confuse anyone.

Zanna,
For my part, I think more of the Loop in Chicago, or the beltway (also connoting a loop) and don’t see any implication in that word of something designed mainly for recreation and fitness use. It may just depend on our personal experience. I think there are lots of ways that the good goal you describe could be accomplished – maybe by suggesting uses of the Arlington Loop instead of re-naming it. We could also refer to it in reports and articles as the Arlington Loop, an important non-car transportation corridor, . . .

That’s now the Bluemont Regional Park Human Powered Aerial Disk Golf Recreational Facility (BRPHPADGRF).

ParticipantWell, since Arlington is being compared to SF a lot lately, i’ll take an idea off this video

why don’t we name it the “MotherF#### Bike Loop”
just a thought, not a campaign promise.
