Not sure how high quality these will be, but here goes nothing!
Here is what is supposed to be happening. Note the male piece of white plastic is supposed to go inside the female piece of white plastic, and the female piece of white plastic is supposed to be attached to the board:

Here is what actually happened. When trying to wedge the male piece of white plastic into the female piece of white plastic, the force required was so much that the female piece of white plastic broke off of the board:

You could put a label on it and give it to a Virginia person at FCC tomorrow. Eventually it would find its way to vicegrip. Either that or use a service I’ve heard of called the Postal Service.

You know I have never been to a FCC–not once? I tend to get more and more sleep deprived all week, and the idea of getting up early on Friday mornings is profoundly unappealing. (Not to mention that the FCC close to me is not a Virginia one, so it probably wouldn’t help anyway.) And since Vicegrip is not responding either here or to PMs, I have no way to get a postal address for him.
Not sure this is worth pursuing. We are, after all, talking about a device which is broken and can probably never be fixed.

Ouch! You know how to hurt a guy….
I thought I sent a PM a while ago. Between my work computer and work issued phone I don’t always know what gets through the spam and wasted time filters. I do think it is an easy fix with $25 spent on a new battery and 20 min spent. The new battery’s wiring can be soldered directly to the board.

ParticipantBased on the photos you posted, I agree that this is fixable for a technician with the right equipment. That looks like a JST battery connector, and the design of the plastic connectors makes it hard to disconnect the battery cable. The intent is to keep the battery connected to the circuit board even if the device is subject to a lot of physical shock. Sometimes the connectors break off the circuit board when maintenance is being done. As Vicegrip says the battery wires can be soldered straight to the circuit board. Or a replacement 3-pin socket can be soldered in.

ParticipantUpdate on the broken 705. Cvcalhoun boxed it all up and sent it to me. Nice little bit of karma as she got some free shipping so no postage.
I was able to clean and resolder the connector in place. Once the connector was back in place and tested I added some epoxy to firm it up. Battery back in, back together and done.
Now the question. what to do with the repowered Garmin 705? I was thinking that it can back to the Original owner as her loaner / backup and if not wanted I can drop it off at Phoenix bikes. Is this something that Phoenix bikes can use? Any other ideas for where it can go?
