Now the question. what to do with the repowered Garmin 705? I was thinking that it can back to the Original owner as her loaner / backup and if not wanted I can drop it off at Phoenix bikes. Is this something that Phoenix bikes can use? Any other ideas for where it can go?

Interesting how the battery is configured. It seems like there is space in the enclosure for Garmin to put a larger shield and battery in. Encouraging that it looks like I’d be able to replace the battery when the time comes.

Might be able to fit a slightly larger cap battery but not by much unless some reconfig was done as there is stuff mounted to the other 1/2 of the case. The clear plastic shield is little more than a double stick tape arrangement to hold the battery tight. The actual emf shield is the silver box soldered to the board. The battery connector is not glued to potted to the board and is mechanically held only by two small prongs that do not have much grip and the three connector pin solder points. Well good enough for a single trained assembly but not much more. The connector is one way only but not marked or formed to be obvious. I can see where someone could try and install it upside down.
Easy enough to take a phone picture before taking it apart to note the proper wire and connector relationship to the socket on the board. A little drop of fast set epoxy between the socket and board before disassembly to better ensure they stay together.Birru, I love the Hakko soldering station too! Sold build, wide heat range and tip selection and great value. Way better heat stability and control than the standard pen type. They make a good de-soldering gun too. Handy for warranty voiders and reconfigurers like me that tend to remove and pack-rat some of the more universal components off of old equipment.
