Battery successfully replaced.
I ordered from these guys, $25 plus shipping for new battery and surgical tools.
Took me about an hour what they do in the video in a few minutes.
Love the background music! What kind of battery life are you looking at now?
Amazon review says it only lasts about 75 minutes? http://www.amazon.com/Edge-800-Replacement-Installation-Extended/dp/B00JH79K08/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1458572507&sr=8-6&keywords=Garmin+Edge+800+Battery+Replacement+Kit

ParticipantHaven’t road tested the new battery yet, but the patient survived the operation and worked on my short commute this morning. For sure, it takes a lot more charge than the old battery, which was down to only about two hours on a charge, and one hour before the “low battery” warning. I’m expecting the new one to get back to the 8+ hours I got when the Garmin was purchased.

ParticipantI’ll be curious to see how well the battery lasts with use–my experience with generic replacements in devices has been lackluster.

ParticipantI got 6+ hours on today’s rides, and I think it has plenty to spare…

ParticipantI did something similar with a Garmin 500 some time back:
http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?8228-Replacing-the-battery-on-your-Garmin-500
The battery life after the replacement seemed to be similar to what I’d had on the Garmin when I first got it. And some time later, the Garmin developed unrelated problems, so I got it “repaired” (replaced with a refurbished one) by Garmin, after which I had an OEM battery anyway.

I think the poster said 75 miles, not minutes:
This battery will just barely make 75 miles before dying.

ParticipantHandled a 5+ hour elapsed time no sweat today: https://www.strava.com/activities/543379070
I’ve got a century or two coming up in the next few weeks and will test it for some longer rides (I need to send it out with Rod Smith or Eric Williams)…

What was your percentage when you plugged it back in?

ParticipantThe new battery held up longer than my right knee!

ParticipantThanks for the heads up. I ordered mine and will replace it when I get the chance!

ParticipantI may have to do this soon. The battery drainage of my Edge 510 is becoming increasingly erratic. It’ll drain like 2 percent on a commute, then the next commute it’ll drain like 15%. And overall battery life seems to be down pretty significantly lately.

ParticipantGlad I saw this thread. I was thinking about getting one of those for my Edge 705 but wasn’t sure if it would be worth it.
Of course, I’d prefer if Garmin actually provided continued product support for the lifespan of their older models.

ParticipantIt took me six months to finally get around to replacing the battery after I ordered the new one, but I did it in about 20 minutes and everything went smoothly. Everything is as good as new and it even retained all my screen settings and preferences.

ParticipantJust a warning: I bought a new battery for my Garmin Edge 705. At one point, you’re supposed to push a white plastic male connector into a white plastic female connector. The connection was so tight that when I tried to push the male bit in, the female bit ended up completely breaking off the board, killing the Garmin. The seller will allow me to return the battery, but that doesn’t help the state of the Garmin.

If you have not chucked it yet. Put it and any remaining bits in a baggy and get to me at some point.
