    Hi all,
Is it too late for Thundercats to get a substitute? I took an incredible head-over-handlebars spill and broke my jaw and have a compression fracture on one of my vertebrae. Today I’ll find out if I’m cleared to ride, but I’m really doubting that.

I still plan on giving my pointless prize (through proxy, one of my teammates on the ground in the DMV), and will let you all know if/when I am cleared to ride.

I’m so sorry to hear it!

Unfortunately, there are no substitutes available, because the team assignment people asked me to cut off registration, then assigned all registered people (even late registrants) to teams. Yours is not the only only team with this issue. Next year, I’m planning to keep registration open indefinitely (although with appropriate warnings that late registrants may not be on a team) to avoid this issue. But unfortunately, there is nothing to be done this year.

Not sure how substitutions work with handicap system, but I am happy to sub in to Thundercats.

Sub into our team! Team 16 has had two people out with injuries most of the competition.

Hey Emm. I responded on Strava but to re-iterate; we don’t need a substitute, we just need you to feel better and recover properly. Thundercats are a family and you’re our number one motivator, thanks for all the amazing miles and days you have ridden this year and inspiring the rest of us to get off our arse. Hopefully you’ll be riding by the time the beautiful summer weather hits. Take good care of yourself and please keep us posted on your recovery.

    Best wishes!

elwbikes, as I responded on Strava, get better. That is the most important thing. I know you think about the team a lot with the kudos you hand out – that can keep us going. I will do my best to ride more miles to make up for your lost ones, although I know my travel schedule is making that tough (maybe I need to get a folding one to take on planes and ride through the airports).

There are two problems with that idea. The first is that other teams have people out due to injuries. (There is even one team that has two people out due to injuries.) It seems unfair to allow a substitution for one team but not others.

The second problem is that we count all points from the beginning for anyone in the competition. There is no way just to have her points to now, and your points starting now, count. So we’d have to remove all her points and add yours earned to date. But since you have about twice the points she does, you’d create an instant boost to her team’s points to date.

True on both counts, yes. (Though the boost to the points isn’t going to exactly put Thundercats into contention.)

To the second point, you could probably just allow people to register now if they wanted to sub in, since it’s retroactive. But whatever y’all decide.

Hey, Hey Hey! I resemble that remarkā€¦ bedsides, Thundercats are notorious late bloomers.
