I’m planning a W&OD ride with a few buddies and we’re debating which direction to ride. I’ve heard good things about Magnolias in Purcellville but am wondering if you guys have suggestions for a bike / bike clothing friendly restaurant in Shirlington? Looking for good food and hopefully good beer! I believe there was a Happy Hour at Capital City Brewing last week – how was it?
Thanks!

Favorites among my cycling friends include Busboys and Poets, Guapos, THAI Shirlington, Cap City, Aladdins, Cheesetique, Luna Grill, Aroma, Carlyle, and by recent reports, Bistro Bistro, among others. I’m pretty sure any restaurant in Shirlington would be welcoming, especially at lunch or mid-day. It’s hard to choose a particular favorite because there are so many good choices. Soon there will be three more – a casual Mediterraean almost-fast-food place (Medi), a Vietnamese noodle and grill place (Lotus Grill) and a pizza place (Pizzaiolo).
Cap City and Samuel Beckett’s (which I forgot to mention in the list above) are the main beer places and have a variety of good draft beers. Out of those two, I like the food at Cap City better (a personal thing – not big on Irish food), and I discovered last week that their apple pie is to die for (I wish I hadn’t made that discovery!).
Anyone else want to weigh in here?

The plaza in front of the library is a popular place for dining al fresco, although nearly all of the restaurants also have outdoor dining.

More for me! I love the food at Beckett’s.
Although I was sad to discover that their Magners draft cider doesn’t seem to be gluten-free

We decided on the Luna Grill/Diner in Shirlington because my wife really likes the Dupont location. Was definitely a fun ride.
