After a long hiatus and a job change, I’ll finally be biking to work again soon! My previous commute was 30 miles round-trip and while this was great for getting tons of miles weekly, I just never had the time. That’s 3 to 3.5 hours per day just prepping, riding and changing and with kids in my life it was just impossible (stupid kids!). My new job is much closer so now I’m looking at 1 to 1.5 hours per day which is awesome and very doable. Now instead of 0, 1 or 2 days per week, I hope to ride every day!

I’ll be working in Ballston at the NSF which also happens to be near Freshbikes (so I hope to try the Tuesday night ride at some point). Any other forum members nearby?

I guess when the NSF moves to Alexandria you’ll have even a shorter commute and will have to start looping into Arlington just to get some decent exercise. Welcome back.

The new location will be about the same distance as my current commute, so I’m happy about that. I live a stone’s throw from the Holmes Run Trail so my commute will lead through there, and I’ll touch even fewer surface streets.

Until the trail floods… which Holmes Run is wont to do, no? :(

I think I’ll like working with an organization (I’m actually a contractor) whose logo is a 16T cog:

Variants include a 12T cog (for going down hill I imagine):

Pretty worn down cog. Almost sharkfin-like. Time for a new cassette and maybe a new chain. ;)
