Just saw this fundraising event for Randy Mouri, a cyclist from Fairfax who is going to do the Race Across America (RAAM) this year. It’s also a benefit for Habitat for Humanity NoVa.

Part of today’s proceeds at Dogfish Head go to the fundraising. You just show up and eat and drink. Mouri will be there riding on a trainer all day.

Thank you for posting this, I am always happy to support a fellow cyclist and have made a donation. That is the monster of all monsters he is training for and I wish him the very best of luck.

You can’t beat a fundraiser where you just show up and drink beer and pay for it like you would anyway.

And yeah, I’m in awe of anyone who does RAAM, especially solo. It’s as much a struggle with lack of sleep and pain as riding fast.

The hallucinations are just an added bonus.

Credit to Dogfish Head, which has been great with local fundraising efforts for cycling. Even if they didn’t already make some of my favorite beer, I’d go out of my way to support them for the support they give our community.

Yes, I saw the documentary about it – I guess you did too? I remember the rider saying he’d hallucinate about things he saw on the road and felt the urge to stop and check them out. His mind was trying to find a way to stop his body.

Or are you referring to hallucinations after drinking 90-Minute IPA?

The film is called Bicycle Dreams, and played here late last year. http://www.bicycledreamsmovie.com/

(Sadly, Jure Robic, multiple RAAM winner and part of the movie, was killed by a car during a training ride near his home, last year.)

About hallucinations and beer- Ah, no. I generally stick with grapes of the fair variety.

Bicycle Dreams was fascinating. Ride the Divide was another interesting flick. I admire and respect the people who engage in that type of event but personally I could not withstand that amount of pain over a long duration.
