Nah. I found that climbing Loudoun County hills on a road surface consisting of 2″ of peanut butter mud on top of ice and snow on a fixie wasn’t really the challenge I was looking for.
I rode on those roads yesterday on a geared bike. The re-freezing muck effectively made it a single speed ride.
I am afraid to ride in this weather, since i fell hard last winter on an icy patch and broke my leg and totalled a wheel too.
Totally understand your point of view. I’ve had a couple of bad falls that put me out of action for months at a time too. Discretion is the better part of valor.

Yikes, looks like people who comment there also fall quiet a while. Thats why since my accident I got myself coverage for my bike from Velosurance Bike Insurance on top of the health insurance I have from Blue Cross Blue shield.
I wish I had the bike insurance before my crash though. It would cover all my costs to repair the bike and replace the wheel. Well lesson learned, lesson learned.
