re: retro-direct: That’s wild. Must be a bit confusing to the mind to get used to actually being able to pedal backwards (and just just spin [freewheel/hub] or brake [if coaster brake or fixie])

Pics of the first WABA Cider Ride – I did the Honeycrisp (60 mile) route, which was fun yet a bit brutal due to the cold and wind. I realize I took no pictures of other people, but rest assured, there were people in attendance ;)

Ride was a lot of fun. Great opportunity to see neighborhoods I’d not ridden.

Addendum: Made a real rookie mistake yesterday. Hit something on my commute home on Friday and discovered I’d flatted the front tire on Saturday morning. Although I had a new (spare) tire and wheel hanging on the garage wall; they were hanging separately because I’d delayed assembling them for several months. To maintain my schedule I was forced to harvest parts from my road bike for my hybrid. 25 on the front and 32 on the back. Sort of like a funny car.

I followed Dan for 5 days from new york to dc on the climate ride and it was comforting to see him in the morning and ride behind him again. He and his GPS save me from getting lost. :)
It was a lot of miles on a really old day. then today I ran the jingle all the way 8K. New PR 50 minutes. Now I need some serious couch time.

Not a lot of people out today…I think I was the only bike that had been at Hains Point. It was also interesting to see the weather change from frozen rain, to snow, to frozen rain, to snow, and back to frozen rain. At one point, it was snowing these huge fluffy snow flakes, while ice pellets were falling simultaneously.

Also, my front derailleur completely froze, so I couldn’t shift out of my middle ring.

Oh that was ejwillis riding with Dana!? Now that I know what you look like I might introduce myself next time I see you. :p I was riding behind you for a while on the return leg, until Kathy Lizotte decided to attack and I chased after her.

I recognized some people I know from this website and Strava, probably saw several others I don’t recognize yet.

    Congrats on the PR!

Oh, you’re ejwillis62! Liz??? I was standing behind you at the port-o-potty line at the farm on Saturday. I thought you looked really familiar but couldn’t place where I’d seen you before (still can’t). Nice to be able to place a face to the avatar. Wow, can’t believe you got out of bed for a long run. Way too ambitious for me!

Hahaha to Rod. He kept telling me “attack, attack!”. All I wanted to do was find someone’s wheel to hug (I did hide behind Rod’s wheel for a windy stretch – thanks Rod!).

Oh I look happy. Nevermind the scowl, I did enjoy meeting you! Jackie? Is she trying to confuse us? Kathy was a bad influence. I didn’t tell her to attack Dana’s group, but once I saw her ruthless riding style I did encourage her to blow by small groups that we caught. She prefers to chat them up though then slowly ride them off her wheel. No one wanted to work with us, I guess people think they should follow not lead the guy in the ride marshal bib. I guess I did an OK job first time ride marshal. I did help fix a flat, and with route finding, but next time I will stop for every disabled rider and the guy who just needed tires topped off even though they all said “No thanks , I’m fine.” Unless maybe if I’m in a large group that’s depending on me for directions, but that wasn’t the case on this ride.
