How far do you ride that thing that you need 3 water bottles? Do you tour with it?

Doesn’t it annoy you that that Giant has no decent place to lock up a bike. Granted, I doubt anyone could walk off with your bike but still…

I bet most people don’t see the bike that is hiding in there.
I like that bike.April 12, 2013 at 3:09 am #967249mstone

My wegman’s has a mini wheel-bender (about 4 bikes). It’s not attached to anything…

One nostril of a BMW. Why is for Dirt to tell and I might guess there is a story.

ParticipantLots of wonderful questions.
1) That is a pig nostril from a BMW. I found it on the side of the road and thought it was JUST the bling I needed for this bike.
2) Giant’s lack of bicycle parking is supremely annoying. Grocery stores in the Falls Church area just don’t get it. My attempts to get them, and the renovated Safeway on Lee Hwy and West street to install racks. Neither did anything. When I take anything but my cargo bike to the grocery, I just take it inside and lean it against one of their displays. If anyone complains, I ask for the manager and explain the situation. They now know me very, very well. I shop there with one bike or another 4+ times per week. They don’t mind. No-one touches my bikes…. even though they get noticed. People usually talk to me about my bikes and how much I ride.
3)The cargo bike NEVER goes unnoticed. I go into the store and when I come out, there’s always at least 1 or 2 people standing around it wondering what planet it landed from. There is often a group of 5 or 6 people standing around it looking at it, pointing and laughing.
4) Why do I need 3 water bottles? I use them often… especially when it is hot. I do interval and hill workouts on the bike. I do training rides. I think the longest ride I’ve done on it is 85 miles. In the last 18 months I’ve put more than 1300 miles on the bike. There’s actually a 4th water bottle cage tucked in there. I currently have a tool pod in it because it isn’t really easy to get the bottle in and out. If I need more water than three bottles provides, I’ll stick a gallon in one of the bucket panniers. One of my goals for 2013 is to do a wine tasting century in Loudoun County. I’d like to carry a nice picnic (complete with umbrella, picnic blanket and basket) as well as a wine rack to safely carry any acquisitions along the way. I’ve already done antiquing rides on it where I buy and cart home stuff that I find along the ride. Why do I do all this? It is fun. It is a GREAT power workout. I totally understand the American preoccupation with huge SUVs. I just choose one that is human-powered and only has 2 wheels.

ParticipantI rode 60 miles to Middleburg for the MS150 ride weekend a few years back… with my Cervelo and enough camping equipment, food and clothing for a group of 4 people to hang out for 3 days.
Friday: Rode 60 miles to Middleburg
Saturday: MS150 Century on the Cervelo
Sunday: MS150 50-mile ride on the Cervelo + 60 mile ride home with all the camping gear.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFX6aEeQNVw
I packed fairly lightly… I think the cargo bike was a little over 130 pounds. That’s actually a pretty light load compared to what Rod rides with every day.
Rolling down the W&OD
Aerodynamic like my friend Tim Kelley taught me….
Gravel GrinderYes… that was a completely ridiculous weekend. I had fun though!

Rolling down the W&ODAt first, this picture freaked me out because this is how my brain interpreted it:
– how is he sitting on that? The seatpost is sticking into his back!
– is he crashing or at the end of a jump? The rear wheel is sticking into the air!
– does he have 2 sets of handlebars? What’s going on here?…then I saw the other pictures and realized that you were transporting a bike on your bike (the entire bike you were riding was hidden in this pic). That’s awesome, but redundant

That sounds like an awesome idea.

One of my favorite things to do on my bike is to take the kids to soccer practice. It’s not a long or challenging ride, but two kids plus soccer equipment, snacks, water, and amusement for the little one who isn’t quite playing soccer yet, all in the bike trailer, makes me smile.

We missed you too! It was strangely quiet, there was no roll out, and by about 8:45 we were only occupying one table. And I’d bet Swing’s lost at least $50 in business!
We did at least have both the pink and blond mustaches reprezent.
