ParticipantThis photo is time stamped 2:08. I knew the client at 1920 N was getting antsy (ready at 1pm, drop by 3) but I stopped to take this picture anyway because I never get this far west. Dropped 907 North Quincy, 1600 Wilson, 1015 31st, picked up the 4 boxes on N St., dropped 1001 Penn then the boxes at 441 4th at 2:48 with 12 minutes to spare. Sat in the park for 40 minutes getting chilled in my sweaty cotton, then 1001 Penn rush to 1300 Wilson followed by 2639 Conn to 515 15th. 48 miles of trailer hauling on fat tires including commute. A good day on the bike.

ParticipantJobs to or from Virginia are exempt from my car job only policy because I’m going there anyway and they pay more than downtown runs. And because they are harder for dispatch to cover but mostly because I’m going there anyway and they pay more. That’s why you don’t see any cargo here and how I made the deadline.

Who do you work for? What do you do? Seems like the best of both worlds. And sheesh, a lot of mileage.

ParticipantShort haul light freight for Quick Messenger Service. Low pay (commission), no benefits, but I do love the work. If you want a bicyclist to deliver cargo locally that’s who you should call, I’m pretty much the only one doing this now. Mike Pierce was doing on-demand deliveries for Best Messenger but I think he’s delivering exclusively for Edible Arrangements now. Chris Rabadi has recently started hauling a smaller trailer. I’m not sure who he contracts with or how much of his work is freight.

ParticipantAh, that man is upside down.
Also it hurts to look at that picture, my brain is rejecting it. (not because of the person but because of the orientation)

And a cold heron by Roosevelt Island
Nice pics. I saw that heron (is it specifically a Night Heron?) Thursday and if my reaction time was better I would have stopped to take a picture. They seem to find a good fishing spot and stay there.

Yes. It is a yellow crowned night heron. A bit further down river under the Memorial Bridge there was a large group of Canada Geese likely reconsidering their decision to be non-migratory.

ParticipantWe decided to ride a little of the GAP trail on our way back from Pittsburgh to DC today. Not exactly what we expected but oh so much fun! More pics and video to come when I’ve got feeling back in all my fingers!
