Trying to get a jump start on Strava’s latest hill challenge. Picked a beautiful day to do Skyline. Went from Front Royal to Big meadows and back.

Finishing the nasty return climb to Hogback, notice the Just-Shoot-Me face. I would have welcomed an impaling from a rabid deer.

Yea, sure the fall leaves were in full bloom- yadayada. Yea, sure I saw a bear – big orange-whip. Let’s face it, after a long crank on Skyline, there is nothing sexier than a double bacon cheeseburger and fries from Spelunkers. Yes, of course I got a chocolate shake.

I always heard that is a tough trail to do on a cross bike. It looks like you had both, any thoughts?
We rode from Oak Marr to Lake Fairfax, some singletrack. It’s fine on cross bikes, you just have to pick your lines a little more carefully. Our son rode a hybrid with 700×32 cross tires.
Yeah, I agree with dcv. I ride it on my cross bike with 700×32 tires (tubeless helps avoid pinch flats). It certainly is faster / more care-free on my single speed 29er (especially some of the more technical new trails in Lake Fairfax), but there is nothing better than riding single track on the way to work — and the mtb would really make a slog of the other 14 miles.
Tried some trails for the first time today at Wakefield Park. I wanted to explore more but it was getting late and I didn’t want to get in over my head. But it was fun! I’ll have to try that area up by Lake Fairfax next.
Biked over to the store with the kids so my daughter could get herself something to make bracelets, which I’m told a 9yo girl can’t live without. My son was excited to use his rack to carry it for her. I was excited that they came up with excuses for a bike ride.
