This section was open as of Monday…the support pillar was still out of whack and there was a small portion taped off, but the trail was open.

Now, I have a new question: who fixed it? I mean, if the MVT was “closed” during the shutdown and the NPS was “trying” to make sure people weren’t using it, then why would they bother to fix it (thus allowing people to use the “closed” trail) during the shutdown instead of afterwards?
It’s not “fixed,” but I don’t think this section was as damaged as the one by the east end where the tree fell, ie no broken boards. Also the NPS has made no effort that I’ve seen to discourage MVT use (other than closing parking lots).
I picked up some chocolate chunk banana bread yesterday at the farmer’s market at Nat’l Harbor. I told myself that because it has fruit in it, it’s a health food!
