    $100 dollar fine for a traffic violation by a bicycle is absurd and 61 dollars in fees is criminal. 😡 Tim, can you fix this? :confused:

    Good question. N. Ft. Myer crossing eastbound Lee Highway. Watch yourself around there. Porky Pig said there have been a lot of ‘accidents’ and he has been assigned to enforce there.

    The Sheriff (I think it was) was interviewed for a Arlington Independent Media documentary on bicycling in Arlington. He was completely off message from the county. When asked about the intersection of doom, he did not know what it was. When he was told that it was Lynn (and Ft Myer) and Lee Hwy, he said it was the cyclists fault because they bike through there too fast. He apparently said several other things reflecting that the views of the Arlco police department are not in step with the Arlington County (Bike Arlington is a project of Arlington Dept of Environ Services).

    Rod, go straight to Libby Garvey and Jay Fisette. Make clear (I would think) that you are not trying to challenge the ticket through them (thats for a court of law – which you obviously can do). But talk to them about how out of step the Arlington police department is from Arlington County – particularly as Arlco goes for the gold for a Bike Friendly Community. Having dangerous intersections, and then solving the danger by sticking cyclists with excessive tickets – isnt solution. If you are not satisfied, you might indicate that you will share your experience also with the League of American Cyclists. To be clear, I am a fan-boy of Arlco and Bike Arlington. I WANT them to get the gold. But for real. And one of the things that needs to be fixed is getting the police department on message – and fixing the intersection of doom.

    Speaking of hospitals, could we put together a regional roundup of bike facilities at hospitals? I would love to be able to shame VHC into better facilities.

    I have reserved parking at Fairfax Innova and Reston. I’ll take some photos over the next week or so and write a blog entry about them. I’ve got a few FABB and WABA things to get done soon.
