I did too. I sometimes get myself mixed up with Liz.

Ha! I was going to say it looked like our legs after each day on the C&O. My mountain bike shoes got so wet and muddy I had to switch to Chaco sandals for a couple of days — the shoes couldn’t dry overnight and I couldn’t bear to put my feet back in them.
The story of my Strava avatar: that is a northwest DC tan line — one morning on my way to work it was just bucketing. When I got into my office and went to take off my shoes, I noticed how much crap had been spashed up on my legs so I snapped a photo.
I have another idea for a Strava avatar, to coincide with my 2014 goal — stay tuned for that.

PS: I’m working on setting up an “introduction to Gravel Grinding” ride series in the next few weeks. I’ll lead them once or twice per month through the fall. Sunday Mornings will likely be the time.
Yes, please! Dcv and I were talking about this the other morning at FCCII. I can’t wait to get out there! Although I did just clean the Viaje this weekend …. You all can thank me for the rain later.

I am so conflicted right now. Allegiance to my FCC1 compatriots… or planning out gravel grinders with the FCC2 crew ‘cross the riva.

What street does that cycletrack run along? I want to ride there the next trip I make to NYC.
As others have mentioned, it’s the Hudson River Greenway, which runs along Rt. 9A (signed in different spots as 12th Ave, 11th Ave, 10th Ave, and West St.) Soooo much better than riding through the city, even if it is the more roundabout route. Riding on the street through portions of downtown was generally fine, but midtown is an absolute nightmare…pedestrians and drivers basically ignore the bike lanes and there’s always someone double parked or a delivery truck forcing you into the lane unexpectedly. It’s kind of fun if you are looking for a harrowing thrill and/or are used to mixing it up with cars on a regular basis, but I would think it extremely frightening for novice cyclists.

As one who alternates, I got my chops busted the other day for saying FCC1. I was told that the correct name was FCC as the others (FCC2 and FCC3) were not the originals and thus needed numbers to distinguish them from the original. I suppose this is similar to the rivalry between the University of California and all of the UC(Insert location here) followers.

ParticipantYeah, so of course it doesn’t rain at all today during my commute times – would have been perfect time to spend on the new bike.
In good news, I’ve learned that I should be fine taking my bike right up into my office with me.

If my emproyer doesn’t want the rides branded as shop rides, I’ll do them anyways and just post them here. Due to work schedule, they will likely be done early on Sunday mornings.

Sunday morning August 11th looks surprisingly free on my calendar …. or pretty much any Sunday in September save the 1st.

Between posting here and staring at your bike, how are you going to get any work done?

Would it be silly of me to try this intro with my no suspension flatbar mtn bike with 1.5″ tires? I feel like everyone else will be on awesome cross bikes.
also, aweXome cross
