Every Friday night, my neighbor books a different band for a porch concert. It’s been a great little escape during all this. The bands play for tips – best act so far got over 1200 bucks. Crowd usually maxes at ~50, with everybody keeping appropriate distance.

Hump Day ride across the George Washington Bridge, Washington Heights, Manhattan to Ft Lee, NJ.

After the GW Bridge I rode up Henry Hudson Drive in Palisades Interstate Park. Some parts of the road are closed to motor vehicles, but open to cyclists and foot traffic even with the gates closed.

I did. By the time I realized the hairpin turn was there, I also realized no amount of braking was going to save my ass. I was day dreaming about the river and forgot about the hairpin turn. At best I thought I would stop midpoint on the steps and crush my nuts. Had no choice but to jump. I stopped under the bridge to check my rims. Amazing but no damage and I’m 83 kilos. Crazy. Cleared all the steps and avoided the pedestrians. The two ladies were cheering as if I did all of it on purpose. Ha! Told the Kennedy Center and I think they plan on some changes to the ramp. Still if I had crashed I think it would have been on me not them.

From what seems to have become my default Sunday morning ride, 27 miles. I head down the 2nd Ave bike lane, cross the Queensborough (ed Koch) Bridge to Long Island City, head down the Vernon Ave cycletrack, cross the Pulaski Bridge to Geenpoint, Brooklyn, then down Franklin Ave to the Kent Ave cycletrack, around the Brooklyn Navy Yard, up Washington Ave to do a lap plus round Prospect Park, eventually over to Clinton St, across the Manhattan Bridge, and then up the 1st Ave bike lane to home.

This video is the exterior roads on three sides of Prospect Park. On the west side there is a cycletrack on Prospect Park West and that street is closed for three blocks as part of the “Open Streets” initiative. It continues around on Prospect Park Southwest, a portion of which may have a bike lane. Then it wraps up on Parkside Ave which is closed as part of the “Open Streets.”
