ParticipantMost of my bikes are gone!
I kept my old beater (a 25 year old Raleigh M60 rigid mtb) that I’ll give away the day before I leave. Today I headed out to the Taunus Therme even though it was close to 90°F outside (85°C inside). On the way back I decided to explore the trail at the end of the runway at Maurice Rose Field (Alteflugpltaz Bonames). Turned out it was a trail only drevil could love and it ended in a fence.

ParticipantAfter the exploration fiasco, I backtracked and took a side “trail.” Probably just where a couple people walked their dogs through the long grass.

It took me back to the end of the Rose Field runway and the Nidda. I kept on the single track until I came to the reconstructed bridge to the Eschersheimer Friebad. When the rebuilt the bridge this winter they took out all the bike parking (over 50 inverted U style racks) and haven’t replaced them yet. The new bridge opened mid-May, before the pools summer opening.

ParticipantI had to eat something with Grüne Soße (Quich) and rode a variant of the GrünGürtel
Start of the ride needed to detour, I guess it was time to unload the Toi Tois (Porta Potties) in the Kleingartenverein

I guess they forgot to “rake” this forest like the Finns

I had my Kona Rove modified with a Schmidt SON front dynamo hub and Busch & Müller front and rear lights once I got to Germany. However, battery powered lights have been permitted in Germany since 2017 and I am using those on my road bike and my fat bike. That said I have only seen the “bike police” once in three years and there are lots of people on bikes without lights after dark.

ParticipantMy time in Germany is drawing to a close, but I still have time to get out for some of my favorite rides. Today’s photos are outside of Frankfurt loosely following the Nidda River.

Looking NW towards Großer Feldberg from barley field below Frankfurter Berg. This gravel was new this past winter because of some type of work being done along the neighboring railroad tracks, lots of heavy machinery.

ParticipantDid not go that far up. This was a quick 15 mile lunch break spin. Made it about a quarter of the way there before turning around under the Huey Long Bridge.
