Excellent! I miss bike camping and can’t wait to get back out there. Hopefully not too many skeeters yet?
None as of last week!

ParticipantSome days your rides just doesn’t go as planned. I’m spending a couple of days in Bad Ems on the Lahn River to ride some sections of the Limes. My drive up from Frankfurt included periods of strong wind, heavy rain, hail, snow, and whatever, so after checking into the hotel I just hung out. This morning I headed out about 10 am for my Tuesday Hills. I followed the Limes to Pohl where there is a reconstructed Limes Kastel. From there I was taking forest roads/trails back up to the Lahn at Kloster Arnstein. While my GPS said there were trails ….. Turned out two footbridges on the route to get to the left bank were closed, lots of trees were down and I ended up having to ford the Dörsbach when my trail on the right bank couldn’t handle a bike.

It almost looks like they just took out railroad ties! I should have just ridden the paved road the other side of the Hornbach
The first photo is before crossing, the second after
Two to duck under and one near the top of the climb to go over as I arrived at Kloster Arnstein

I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority when I say I love and seek trail detritus to play on after a good windy storm. That first log you posted looks like a perfect specimen
Continuing the off-tarmac theme, this is from a few days ago when Jo and I went to Bootleg Canyon trails right outside of Vegas. Such rock, much wow

ParticipantJo and I went to Hurricane/La Verkin, Utah for the first time yesterday to check out another area for desert mountain biking, and left very impressed.
We didn’t get to go to Gooseberry Mesa because our short Honda Fit couldn’t get to the trailhead with the really rough, rutted roads that lead up to it. Next time, we’re bringing a trail worthy car as well

ParticipantIt was a Mary Poppins Saturday, practically perfect. I was out on the Pistola with about half of the Frankfurt metropolitan population (they’re just not in my pictures).
Yeah, I found some more of the Limes, this near Marköbel

ParticipantSunday in the Parks (Grüneburg, Volkspark Niddatal, and Bonames Nordpark). More sun and Spring as Germany goes on daylight savings time.

ParticipantFinally got a chance to play with a 360 camera (Insta360 One X). They are fun!
It looks like it only renders properly if you go to YouTube?

Took me a minute to realize I could pan the view by clicking & dragging. Pretty cool.

ParticipantSun was playing hide and seek today, but I did a loop through FFM and then around the south side.
I didn’t start until after noon so the bakeries in the small towns were already closed. Stopped for my coffee at Der Bäcker Eifler on Frankfurter Straße in Neu-Isenburg.
Up until Neu-Isenburg I was mostly on paved trails and roads, after it was the Stadtwald and GrünGürtel

ParticipantI’m trying to get in a lot of the short tours I’ve been procrastinating about for the past two years. This had lots (more than I had planned on because of a couple wrong turns) of climbing and a little more than half gravel, 65.32 miles and 4757 feet of climbing.
About 9 miles into the ride, passing through Zeilsheim as part of the Hessen R8 bike route.
Heading toward Leiderbach am Taunus.
Reconstructed Limes Roman watch tower Idstein-Dasbach, privately done about 2002.
I chatted with Phil while enjoying my ice cream (double scoop of NY Lemon) in Bad Camburg. He’s a former attorney from New York.
The end is in sight, Schloß Braunfels.

ParticipantAbout the same distance as Sunday’s ride, but only about half the climbing, and very little gravel
Heading out with a photo stop at the rear of Schloß Braunfels
I wouldn’t want to have to pull this out of my tire, even on the Pugsley (in Burgsolms)

ParticipantA group from the Consulate were in the Netherlands this weekend to tour the Kuekenhof Gardens and Delft. I had to make do with Bad Vilbel on the Nidda.
