For me, it’s the eyes. Cold, without pupils, hiding what evils it may be planning while I try to sleep at night.

ParticipantI finished part 2 in my biking Lake Washington Loop video series. This part shows the route around the north, northeast, and eastern parts of the lake and goes through Kenmore, Bothell, Kirkland, and into Bellevue. For some reason, there isn’t much signage, and there are alternate routes that people sometimes like to use, but this follows the most official-ish one as far as I can tell.
There are a couple of long climbs in this section of the loop, but they’re all doable if you can get yourself into a good rhythm. The route takes folks to the SR 520 Trail and Mountains to Sound (I-90) Trail, both of which have bridge crossings that lead to Seattle.
I hope to finish part 3 before New Year’s, but enjoy part 2!

ParticipantHappy holidays from Seattle! I checked out some holiday lights on the south end of Lake Washington in Renton and made a quick little video on it.
I’m looking forward to doing Freezing Saddles again, see ya!

ParticipantJust before the end of the year, I finished the 3rd and final video in my series on biking the Lake Washington Loop. This one goes around the southern part of the lake and passes through parts of Bellevue, Renton (including the Seahawks’ practice facility), and Seattle.
The first part of this ride includes some of my favorite stretches of road for biking as they are low traffic, have nice pavement, are surrounded by trees, and get really nice views of the lake especially in the afternoon/evening (sunsets are gorgeous).
If you get time to do a 50-60 mile bike ride during a visit to the Seattle area, I definitely recommend the Lake Washington Loop.

ParticipantWell, it took all the way to February this winter for the Seattle area to finally get some snow, but it was glorious! I made sure to ride my bike through the snow to get to work on Monday, and it was probably the most fun morning bike commute I’ve had since moving here.
FYI for most of this winter, the Seattle area has had weather as follows: high 30’s through low 50’s (F), some rain, and a lot of gloomy grey skies. Fast forward to this week: low 20’s through high 30’s (F), snow, and partly cloudy skies. Needless to say, folks here are in shock. I even had to bring out my balaclava for the first time this winter last night!
Enjoy the video!

ParticipantThere may be snow up in Gambrill but down on the C&O it’s camping season again! Had a great, quick weeknight escape up to the Horsepen Branch campsite at Mile 26. Water is still off, so I carried a few liters in.

Excellent! I miss bike camping and can’t wait to get back out there. Hopefully not too many skeeters yet?
