ParticipantThis is your PSA to always wear your helmet… and not ride on top of logs with wet, slippery bark

ParticipantIt’s been a Mary Poppins week cycling weather-wise in Frankfurt, practically perfect! Yesterday I had an HDCC morning ride to the Äppel-Bistro at the MainÄppelHaus on the Lohrberg. In the afternoon I did a solo ride up to Bad Nauheim, former “home” of Elvis and George Patton.

ParticipantDay 7 of Practically Perfect cycling weather in Frankfurt and I took advantage of to do the road climb up Großer Feldberg (at 884 meters above sea level, the tallest point in the Taunus). I was really slow averaging about 7 mph over the 8 miles and almost 2100 feet of climbing (my biggest climb on Strava) and got passed by 6 or 7 other riders on the climb. The descent into Schmitten was nail-biting, I don’t rally mind the climbing but steep descents do me in.

ParticipantI totally forgot about my Garmin Virb camera during this year’s freezing saddles. So, when I was out for my Sunday ride yesterday I took my Pugsley fat bike which has the combo gps/camera mount and rode the trails in the Volkspark Niddatal (Niddapark) and along the Nidda River. This video is half of the park’s perimeter loop.

ParticipantOne more from April 22, a loop in Bonames Nordpark including the gravel switchbacks. For the first time I encountered cyclists coming down as I was going up.

Sunday got out to Wakefield and enjoyed pretty much perfect conditions. Yesterday was on the road with a couple buddies- I’ve been fighting a wicked cold, so I played “lead-out” on a couple segments to help them get KOM’s… actually kinda fun!!

ParticipantOur string of fine cycling weather continues in Frankfurt. Today I got out for a road ride and stopped for a solo HDCC (yeah, solo means it ain’t a club, I know) at Bäckerei Café Freimund in Ober-Erlenbach.

ParticipantWe drove (gasp) to Munich yesterday to attend Bavarian-American Friendship Day at the Hippodrom Tent on the Theresinweise as part of the Spring Frühlingsfest, think low-key Ockotberfest. We’re staying for the weekend, and I brought a bike! Unfortunately Margaret this is the end of the annual employee evaluation cycle, so she went in to the CG here to push some paperwork. Fine by me, WSGFABR in the beautiful Bavarian Spring weather!
