Did you make it up moon rocks? My buddy and I tried about 5 times each before he finally made it and I gave up and walked the last part.

Was able to ride way more than I thought I could – around 70%. There were spots where I was like “EFF THIS!” and then other spots where I took what looked to be the easiest line and then got myself into a corner where I’d have to pull a drevil manoeuvre to get out of it so I’d have to put a foot down or get off the bike and walk a few feet.

My new(-ish) bike really likes uphill chunky rocks. It likes downhill rocks too, but I’m not quite as thrilled about that.

I love Davis’ Moon Rocks section. Thanks for the pics!

I did some more exploring of Seattle, this time I headed along the entire Alki Trail (about 4.4 miles long) that runs along the coast of West Seattle. It’s a nicely kept trail that offers gorgeous views of the Seattle skyline across Elliott Bay and of the surrounding lands/islands across Puget Sound. Alki is the settlement that would grow into Seattle. Also, they have a miniature version of the Statue of Liberty!

Nice to see appropriately cloudy skies. Oh how I miss the PNW.

Man, you made that log look easy.

Thanks! To be fair, this is the first time those two guys tried the log, and I like the way my bud Nick (blue helmet) did the preload hop onto it which looks more graceful than when I do it.

I had the opportunity to volunteer on Sunday for the Alexandria Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the United Way for a bike ride for 17 4th graders from Cora Kelly Elementary. These kids were super amped to be on a bike ride. The big surprise at the end of the ride: New Bike Day for all of the kids.

I used to volunteer for Trails for Youth, which is a non-profit org that helps disadvantaged kids get out in the woods on mountain bikes. Very fun and rewarding, which I expect was similar for you here.

    A few questions:
    1. You couldn’t have switched shirts with the kid so that he/she wouldn’t have a draggy parachute that could get tangled in the wheels?
    2. When is New Bike Day for adults?

    :)

Fat man in a little shirt… Komorebi and I had the two smallest kids in our group so the shirts were a bit baggy on them.

I’ll talk to the United Way guy about a very deserving adult mountain biker who needs a new bike.

If you’re wondering about the bike, it is a Salsa Timberjack, which I bought mostly because of the name.

Soooo, has this bike been getting any love? On dirt? Do we need to set up a dirt day for you? :)

Info will usually be on the BPAC facebook feed.

If you mean are we getting publicity in the local press – all I can say is that if someone wants to volunteer to help with press relations for BPAC, that would be very welcomed, IIUC.

The United Way posted on Facebook, but I didn’t see them post anywhere else: https://www.facebook.com/unitedwaynca

The kids on this ride all had received bike lessons in their PE classes and their PE teacher and another teacher from the school were on the ride. It’s the kind of thing that would make a good news story.
