ParticipantConditions continue to prove challenging here in the SHO for Team 12. But fear not, I soldier on.

Palm trees suffering a bit due to all the heat in the last few days.

ParticipantRented a CitiBike on Thursday night and did some riding around Jersey City and Hoboken. There are no stations in Hoboken, so I did go a little over the 30 minute limit (oops). I found the 2 minute required wait between docking and undocking to be weird, though.
Hoboken terminal
Checking out Sinatra Island which is like a boardwalk with a playground, many benches, miniature hill with grass for sitting, and great views of the Manhattan skyline
My Citibike with Manhattan across the water
Vezzetti Way, a 2-way protected bike lane that uses painted hexagonal tiles (not sure of the material) and was really nice to ride on

ParticipantThe dog was a bit uncertain about the concept of riding in a bike trailer, particularly after we had “abandoned” her at the groomer’s for several hours for her first professional grooming. But she got accustomed to it surprisingly quickly.
Can I claim #kidical points for a fur baby?

The view from the bike path this morning on to the Pacific…The mosquitoes down there are unregulated therefore not afraid of wrongful death lawsuits. I hear they are particularly fond of meaty spandex clad butts. Beware the mosquito!

ParticipantAlmost forgot to take this picture for my fellow riders (especially Klizotte!)… more salutations from the SHO of Team 12!
And yes, the mosquitos are an issue – but 10 days ago I was in Zika, Uganda, so these little fellers have got nothing on their brethren from across the pond!

R St NW temporary bike lane art by Jon, on FlickrAfter only 6 months of begging, DDOT finally came out to inspect the construction on R NW. This is the temporary bike lane they painted. It’s still a complete s**tshow, and they closed the bike lane to paint this JUST as I was passing through with the kids yesterday, but you have to celebrate the small victories. That right there is MY temporary bike lane. I fought for it, and while it’s too narrow and rutted like the M St lane, it is MINE. You all are welcome to use it any time, so long as you’re on a bike.

ParticipantUmmmm, I applaud your efforts but I strongly suspect it will become a parking lane within a matter of hours.

Congratulations on your achievement. Those bike symbols are seriously twisted, though. One might even say they are “bent.”

The Prince William Cycling Club has been doing weekly night rides (weather permitting). Last night was 15 miles, about 1000 feet of elevation, and less then 10 cars during the entire ride!!!
