Well, I’ spent a lot of time recently getting ready for the packers (but really should have done more). That meant time off the bike, so today after the truck was loaded I headed out to the island for more fun with Pugsley. It was sunny and cool with a light breeze, what was not to like?

Eve though we got a little rain yesterday, it’s been very dry and lots of the sand is very loose. Still there was one really messy section.

Hit an off road loop further south. Yeah that’s the way back to Parkovi Bridge.

Probably my last ride in Ukraine. This morning I was on the Pugsley dealing with lots and lots of cobblestones and tram tracks.

[ATTACH=CONFIG]12092[/ATTACH] This (Krakivska St) runs from our hotel to Rynok Sq and is a pedestrian street.

[ATTACH=CONFIG]12093[/ATTACH] Soviet era Monument to the War Glory of the Soviet Army across Heroiv Maidanu St from the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Army Academy.

[ATTACH=CONFIG]12094[/ATTACH] I planned on riding Studenska St alongside Lychakiv cemetery, but it was blocked off and totally torn up. Didn’t push it with the fat bike.

[ATTACH=CONFIG]12095[/ATTACH] This meant I rode by the University instead.

[ATTACH=CONFIG]12096[/ATTACH] Back on track and I did an off road loop in the park on the right to go up the hill.

It was nice to finish the ride down from the park mostly on smooth pavement and then a cycle path.

Then it was time for breakfast followed by a six hour walkabout with my wife and son (included a lunch stop).

After driving one of the worst roads ever through the Ukrainian Carpathians (it was nothing but connected potholes for 20 km) it was a relief to hit the Slovakian highways. We stayed over at the Hotel Europa in Liptovsky Mikulas. I headed out just after 6 am for my morning ride around the lake.

We got to Budapest a little after four, unloaded the bikes in the Danubius Hotel Gellart store room (very, very helpful staff!) and headed out to exchange money, take a walk and get dinner. Lots and lots of bikes, bike infrastructure, and a bikeshare, so a couple photos.
