I finally put together my footage from biking before/during/after Winter Storm Jonas in parts of western Alexandria and Arlington. From watching the footage, I remembered how tired I was getting from pushing my bike through the heavy amount of snow and how thankful I was to the snow plow drivers and homeowners who made it possible to at least bike in many parts. I cut out a majority of me pushing my bike through the snow as it wasn’t very interesting.
It is pretty awesome MTB conditions out there. We just rode around the neighborhood a bit; my son kept plowing into the deeper sections and falling down. Luckily falling in soft snow wearing a snowsuit is mostly just fun.
This was bad enough on my Bar Mitts. But when I got onto the saddle, it was in more or less the same shape. Let’s just say I was concerned about the potential for a very embarrassing case of frostbite.
Fatbiking on Trukhaniv Island today, just a few icy patches, but lots of mud. Fell on the partially frozen mud next to the big puddle in the picture on the right.
It was a pleasant Saturday afternoon in Kyiv so I was out for a bike ride stopping at McDonalds on Onore de Bal’zaka St on the Dnipro left bank. When I arrived there were two bikes by the front door. I took my food outside to eat and a woman and I presume her son came out and got on the bikes and headed up the MUP along the street. I’m always pleased to see a parent out for a ride with a child! Note, her purse was the trunk bag you can see on her rear rack.
I rode my project roadie bike, Snow White, on Sunday for the first time in awhile from Falls Church VA to East Riverdale MD, to bid farewell to @IrishGorilla, with nuggies, along with several other members of #blokes-broads-bikes-and-brews (some of which have infiltrated several #bafs2016 teams)
Crossing DC on a congestion-free Sunday morning from the Key Bridge to the MBT was a welcome change from my normal DC commute. But R Street NE between 1st and the MBT has been carpet bombed, with a few steel plates sprinkled here and there just to make it interesting. Next time I will wear a kidney support belt (or use a Fat Bike).
