ParticipantSigh. I think it’s been a year since I pointed out to that Safeway’s management that their wheelbender violates City guidelines in both design and placement (their SUP required installing bike racks in compliance with the city’s bike parking standards).

Sounds like a job for code enforcement…

Despite the appearance of being in a remote setting, this is actually just outside DC.

ParticipantDefinitely not the spirit of Freezing Saddles, but I was in Florida over the weekend. The first three photos are in Celebration.

This is near Disney’s Hollywood Studios with the Tower of Terror in the background. It was enough terror for me trying to stop the bike with coaster brakes with dead legs (one day after running a marathon). The things I do for Team X.

ParticipantIt maybe Freezing Saddles season and cold outside, but don’t forget to look up once in awhile and get treated to winter skyscapes like this one, yesterday afternoon, West Potomac Park.

ParticipantThis is actually a really ugly part of Sterling full of generic office parks.

Beautiful!
I have a pond right across the street from my office (Fair Lakes area). The sunset/sunrise reflecting off of it makes regularly makes me smile and realize that the asphalt hell I curse so often on the last few miles of my commute (from Falls Church) isn’t really that bad. The FFX County Pkwy trail going through the office’s backyard does the same when I feel like taking the long way to/from work.

Something appropriate for today’s holiday – the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum. It’s a bit out of the way and the ride goes through some poorer areas of Anacostia and Fort Stanton, but it’s manageable during the day. (I probably wouldn’t ride through there at night though.)
I’ve read about the museum but I had never visited before. I didn’t have enough time to go inside. Next time. It would have been nice to get out of the 5F wind chill.
There are bike racks just off to the right, plus a few more at the back end of the building.

The view of central DC from one of the hills of Anacostia. It’s a modestly challenging climb to get to the Museum. It will probably deter most casual cyclists. It’s not the toughest hill ever, but it involves some work.
